Cinematographer Anthony Dod Mantle's ( The Last King of Scotland) lensing – a mix of cool black and white footage for the prologue and other parts of the film, and rich but cold color footage - is stunning. Confessions about Anxiety - director Lars von Trier talks about the controversial message of his film.

Unfortunately you cannot watch everything straight through, having to select each segment as you go. Antichrist is not an easy film to endure – it offers a chilling trip into the bleak world of a devastated couple – He (Willem Dafoe, Shadow of the Vampire) and She (Charlotte Gainsbourg, The Science of Sleep) - where abuse, misery and self-humiliation are examined in a shockingly disturbing fashion. The effects team was under the impression that von Trier wouldn’t show the actual “act” on film and was surprised that he would end up wanting a close-up of the actual even. She's working on a project about men's perception of women through the ages, while he is working on an even bigger project: trying to get her to cope in a genuine and cathartic way. All four chapters in von Trier's film make it perfectly clear that it was Satan that created us; hence the reason why we suffer, kill and die. But then things devolve into messy horror movie clichés, which resolve with some kind of bafflingly misogynistic image of dead women, throughout the ages, coming out of the woods, in a ghostly march. On a parallel journey, Ray tries to convince his daughter that his wife's disappearance was, in fact, the rapture.
