That’s the first of two things I don’t like about it because it means spending 10 seconds resting it against a piece of furniture or the wall while I juggle with loose rugs, and 10 seconds of extra vacuuming for me means 10 fewer seconds spent lounging on the sofa with a pizza. I still miss the old fella though I swear I saw him hanging out in a bar with some builders the other day, effing and blinding about the bastard wot threw him in a skip while sipping on a pint of Hawkstone. We were pleased to have the option to dial it down to the low power setting; otherwise, our rugs would have been sucked right off the floor. Admittedly, it isn’t absolutely necessary, but it does add a welcome touch of luxe to household chores. Its cleaning credentials are equally impressive – it lifted pet hair in one sweep and gobbled up every last speck of the biscuit crumbs laid on carpet.

Don’t be put off by its tech-y sounding name either – our tester found it easy to use with accessible controls. And if he can handle that, he can certainly deal with a domestic carpet or litter-strewn hard floor.

You’ll get a plug to charge wherever you like, but you can also connect it to a wall mount (which has to be attached to your wall, and will become your charging station). Despite this, it’s very manoeuvrable when used as a stick vacuum and the power boost button does the business, particularly when it comes to pet hair.

Overall I found the Shark very easy to set up and use, although emptying the dust bin was a bit fiddly. With up to 30mins runtime per battery, Henry Cordless is ready for whole house cleans, quick clean-ups and even in-car cleans. Instead, it has a simple ON button, a separate button to engage the spinning brush head when required and a third power boost button, all in the same area. If you need a vacuum for pet hair removal, especially from sofas and beds, a light and handy cordless makes a lot of sense.
