Starring: Taaron Egerton, Jamie Foxx, Eve Hewson, RELEASE DATE: out now.
It’s rumoured that Robin Hood Begins was considered as the original title for the latest Robin Hood movie to hit the big screen in the same vein as the Batman Begins origins storyline. But rather than be tarred with connotations of a bleak, heavy-handed plot the marketeers simplified the title. Punchy.
The epic adventure of the man in green tights (actually, they’re more like baggy jeggings in this tale) with a bow and arrow apparently takes on more of an action-packed adventure which is great as nobody does modern action better than Kingsman star Taaron. He’s a rough diamond cheeky boy and a jump/twist through the air, slow motion, with a set of money bags tied to his belt would make a great trailer clip. Just a suggestion…
WRECK-IT RALPH 2: RALPH BREAKS THE INTERNET
Starring: John C. Reilly, Sarah Silverman, Jane Lynch, Release Date: November 30.
One of the most anticipated kids movies of the year, Ralph Breaks the Internet is the sequel to the critically acclaimed Wreck It Ralph. The original told the tale of a video game villain who no longer wanted to be the bad guy. The sequel has the original characters exploring the internet, instead of other video games as they did the original. It also features new characters, played by Taraji P. Henson, Bill Hader and Gal Gadot. As a bonus, all of the Disney princesses will be making an appearance and will be voiced by the original actresses. Hopefully this sequel will turn out to be as uplifting and inspiring as the original.
Starring: Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Nicole Kidman, Release Date: December 14.
NDC has had a difficult time the last few years, desperately trying to catch up with Marvel’s iconic cinematic universe. This Christmas Jason Momoa’s Aquaman is finally getting his own solo film, after his debut 2017’s Justice League. Hopefully this movie will be better than Justice League, which scored a disappointing 40% on Rotten Tomatoes. It will mark the debut of Amber Heard as Mera, a warrior and Aquaman’s love interest. Hollywood veteran Nicole Kidman also stars as The Queen on Atlantis, and the Aussie’s a sure thing when it comes to successful blockbusting movies.
MARY POPPINS RETURNS
Starring: Emily Blunt, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Meryl Streep, Release Date: December 21.
Yet another adaptation of a classic, it kind of feels like Hollywood is getting desperate for original ideas. That being said, it’s hard to not be excited for another Mary Poppins movie, especially when that adaptation stars Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins. Julie Andrews left some pretty big shoes to fill, but if anyone’s up to the task, it’s Emily. Lin-Manuel Miranda of Hamilton and Moana fame also stars, so hopefully the music will also be a highlight.
