About this deal

Tough and reliable. Space Marine units have great profiles, with even the basic Marine offering high Strength and Toughness and a 3+ save. They’re a resilient army which can be forgiving for newer players. the Start Collecting! Vanguard Space Marines box comes with seventeen Space Marines, as I'd mentioned, on three different sprues. From the looks of it, all the bits from the different units are mixed up on the sprues, and so it's the buyer's responsibility to read the instruction booklet (which also comes with the box, of course!) and unscramble them in a way that pleases the God-Emperor. Or not, if you're a filthy heretic. Source: Games Workshop

One of the nice things about Militarum Tempestus being 4 units in 3 kits is that you get all of them right here in this box. Like the generic Militarum set this comes with the plastic Commissar (a bit like Tech-priests Dominus in Ad Mech, if you have any interest in buying Tempestus at all you will end up drowning in these guys), but also two squads of Scions and a Taurox. Squads of Scions and Tauroxes are pretty much all there is to have for the Tempestus, and the Scion kit is a dual one which lets you build the Tempestor Prime and a Command Squad too, and is full of cool bits. If you want to get some Scions on the table there’s basically no better way to do it than this – turn the Commissars into terrain statues or convert them into other things. There’s also a good stepping stone towards this on the way to 1500pts – if you take out the second copy of Start Collecting Vanguard and the Phobos librarian, you’re left with just over 1000pts and can get under it while keeping a Battalion by shuffling the model counts on the Infantry. Space Marine Terminatorsnow have a chunky toughness of five and 4+ invulnerable save. Their Teleport Homer can be placed anywhere outside the opponent’s deployment zone: during the battle they can deploy close to the Teleport Homer at the end of the opponent’s movement phase, using the new Rapid Ingress Stratagem. They’re not the only unit that will be able to use the Stratagem, but Terminators using a Teleport Homer can do so for no CP. Space Marines are heavily indoctrinated with psycho-conditioning. This ensures their loyalty to the Emperor– for the threat of a Space Marine slipping his bonds and succumbing to the ruinous powers of Chaos is too great to be ignored.Primaris Space Marine Lieutenants, one armed with a power sword and bolt pistol, the other an auto bolt rifle and bolt pistol Alright. So this would have been a cool core army a few years ago, now not so much. However you can still springboard off this to glory. You can immediately play this army as a Patrol detachment of around 300 to 400pts, meaning you are technically have a battleforged list from the get go.

Aggressors and Intercessors are brilliant units that feature in a bunch of high level armies. Split the Intercessors into two 5 strong squads, throw bolt rifles on them. Couple this with the Aggressors and you have a core army that can throw out absurd amounts of firepower. The Vanguard Space Marines, introduced to both the tabletop game and Warhammer 40k lore in the 2019 Shadowspear box set, are a specialised sub-set of the Primaris Space Marines, kitted out for covert operations, stealth, sabotage, and reconnaissance. The Space Marines Gladius Task Force Detachment will be included with the free Index rules when 10th edition launches. Warhammer 40k detachmentswork differently in 10th edition 40k compared to ninth. Each detachment provides your force with army-wide rules, six 40k stratagems, and a set of enhancements (similar to Warlord Traits or Relics), and may impose restrictions on how you construct your list. So you’ve got your base (or not), and are looking for ways to expand. Here’s what I’d personally recommend looking at for taking your next steps: If You… …Just Want to Build a Competitive Army for Events Overall if you have this box, don’t panic. It will give you a place to start with, especially if you aren’t going to include any primus units. Start Collecting! Vanguard Space Marines What this means in English is that you will want your units ideally within 6″ of the captain, one of the LTs and ancient. They hand out a reroll of 1 to hit, 1s to wound and allow people to shoot or fight when they die on a 4+ respectively. This owns as it makes your units a hell of a lot more effective. The Captain is a punchy monster also.

All in all it revolves around your playstyle and your chapter tactics, as you'll have to select units that synergise well with this in mind. Each Space Marine begins life as a human adolescent, and is selected to enter a chapter through a series of gruelling trials. Those who survive receive a series of genetically-engineered implants, or “geneseed”. Some are additional organs, like the third lung and second heart, while others alter their metabolism and enable the other implants to function.

Chaos Space Marine Daemonkin

All of the Vanguard Space Marine units included in Shadowspear can either deploy in a concealed position or low altitude. A concealed position is anywhere on the battlefield not within 9 inches of an enemy or their deployment zone and low altitude means they aren't placed on the battlefield, but deploy at the end of your movement phase. This gives Vanguard Space Marines a huge amount of flexibility in terms of battlefield control and dominating objectives.

The Craftworlds box is extremely weird. It’s an incredible saving over buying the kits individually – if you want any two of them, you might as well buy this instead and get the others essentially free – but as a place to do what it says on the tin and start collecting Craftworld Eldar it’s woeful, since there’s no actual Troops in here. There’s only two elves, even, and one of them is piloting a War Walker. Still, most of the units are at least passable to good, and it’s quite a hefty chunk of points, too.As totally rad Successor chapters, we don’t get access to special characters and units but we do score the really tasty themed stratagems and warlord traits. However the most critical thing we pull out of the supplements is their effect on Doctrines. If money permits, I would highly suggest Betrayal at Calth as that gives you a sizable SM force and a range of bitz that lets you build up another devastator squad easily.
