As for her obsession with the the dad - rescuing him from ditch and then slugging a drink from his bottle - did she have a crush on him or what?

On December 8, 2021, the series was given a premiere date of January 28, 2022, and a new title: The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window. Not sure if Sager has lost his touch/giving into pressure and demand for more books, but this one and Survive the Night were not it. Much like “The Woman in the Window” and “The Girl on The Train” the woman who observes what she believes to be a crime in this book is drunk 24/7. able to move quickly, super sensitive hearing, and able to see through a pair of binoculars no less, in the freaking dark. They become friends but Casey becomes more and more convinced that something is not right with their marriage. Anna shares her history as a starving artist who found success after painting her dog as Mona Lisa and began painting other people's dogs into masterpieces. Also what was up with her judging the husband for eating frozen burritos when she’s drinking bourbon all day with grilled cheese? Bitter experience teaches us that thrillers which promise good things in the opening episode often fall to pieces at the midpoint then descend into absolute bunk by the end. Casey, having witnessed some very suspicious behaviors from the couple before, thinks violence may have been involved.

the whole “unreliable alcoholic female narrator witnesses her neighbours do something shady because she was spying on them” is sooo over done (thank goodness this wasnt titled ‘the woman across the lake’ lol). She has just recovered from breast cancer, her ex-husband has a new partner and a baby on the way, and she is losing connection with her teenage son. I didn't understand her motives in this and in particular the scene at the travel agency when she said something so intensely cruel to the grieving mother.Anna pitches up at the school gate in her dressing gown and slippers, despite no longer having a child to drop off. She finds an apparently dead woman on the flight; the steward claims there has been no one as the body vanishes, leaving Anna to delve into another mystery. One year later, Anna, who has a newborn daughter with Douglas, takes a flight to New York to visit Sloane.

Don’t worry, I won’t ruin anything for you but towards the end when things finally got interesting, it does get boring because again, Sager keeps fleshing the obvious out to the point of no control. Be forewarned, spoilers are ahead: The fact that there was a supernatural aspect in this book took me by surprise as Riley Sager has never included a supernatural aspect before since some other books of his would fit the concept better. I’m still giving this a 3* because I enjoy Sager’s style of writing and this could have been more engaging if the twists had been more well placed throughout instead of all left until the end!The House Across the Lake very much feels like the blending of two books into one, which did give a slightly clunky vibe to the overall narrative and a feel that maybe too much is included, while also serving a particular type of plot twist (supernatural theme) that some readers like to know about before going in, as they don't enjoy it. When she’s not writing about the next unmissable show to add to your to-watch list or delving into royal protocol, you can find Emma cooking and watching yet more crime dramas. Casey kept numbing her pain with more booze, self sabotaging, spying on neighbors, getting more dislikable person at each chapter! Rex tried to back off when he learned that Neil has a daughter, but Chastity threatened to blame Rex for the plan.
