Description

Small carving projects with intricate detailing often require multiple burrs of different shapes, this is when a carbide burr set comes in handy. Dan Miller is a professional toolmaker with extensive experience in the metalworking and tooling industry. Different uses mean the bits come with either a single or double-cutting profile. Single-cut burrs have a single cutting profile or ‘flute’ that runs from the top to the end in a spiral. This is ideal for: HSS burrs will start to soften at higher temperatures so die grinder bits made from tungsten carbide are always a better choice for long-term performance. What Are The Advantages of Tungsten Carbide Burrs?

Choose from an end-cut cylinder (with a cutting edge on the end) for contour finishing. Cylinder without end cut (flat on the end and no cutting edge) for contour finishing and right-angled corners or a round nose or ball nose shape which is a cylinder-shaped carbide burr but with a rounded head.Carbide Burrs on 1/4″ Shanks– Solid Carbide Burrs– 1/4″ Carbide Burrs on 1/8″ Shanks– Long Shank Carbide Burrs– NF Carbide Burrs– Carbide Burr Sets– End Mills– Accessories

Die grinders are primarily meant to work with metal (specifically for Tool and Die making). But one can also use them on other, more sensitive materials like plastic and wood. When working with metals only, tungsten carbide burrs are mostly preferable. This is due to their durability in handling several demanding jobs without wear or tear. The HSS burrs, on the other hand, have a reduced tolerance for heat. As a result, high temperature and pressure tend to soften the HSS tool. Compared to HSS, tungsten carbide burrs can last longer.

2. Carbide Burrs Commonly Come in Two Cuts; Single Cut and Double Cut

With a die grinder and the right attachment on the end, you can polish, sand, cut, grind, or hone various materials. Obviously, this makes the die grinder useful in a lot of different circumstances, as I will show you later on in the guide. Likewise, I will also explain how the die grinder, like many other handheld tools, is separated into two different kinds based on their power source. Die Grinder Uses In such situations, a right angle die grinder is very handy. It can go in difficult to reach places. See the illustration below. Helpful note: If the burs are chipping easily this could be due to the speed being too slow. However, it's ideal to start the cutting slowly, increasing the speed as you go along. Higher speeds will prevent clogging in the flutes of your burrs. Carbide burrs, more commonly called die grinder bits, are the attachments used in rotary tools. They’re ideally used for smoothing, grinding, shaping, carving and deburring excess materials in a variety of workpieces. They come in different cutting profiles and shapes to produce different types of cuts. And you can find them in varying sizes. What Are They Made of? The versatility of die grinders means this is the tool that you’ll be reaching for when there’s the need to grind, cut, carve, polish, shape or smooth just about any material you’re working on. This assumes that you have the right attachments.
