You don't get a very good sense of directional imaging with this headset, which can offer a bit of benefit when playing first-person games. Currently, Fortnite, Overwatch, Warframe, Dauntless, Smite, Paladins, DC Universe Online, Friday the 13th (no cross-platform chat), and Killer Queen are the only games that support this. The earpad's improved padding and soft fabric enable lengthy, comfortable gaming sessions, and the strong audio balance works well for both games and music. This is a notorious weak point for headsets, so strengthening this area is always welcome and should prolong the product lifespan. The PC version we tested has red accents, the PS4 version has blue accents, and the Xbox One version has green accents.

It's a flexible, angular mic that extends down when you need it, or it can lay flush with the band when you don't want it in front of your face. This means the carbon footprint of the product and packaging has been reduced to zero due to Logitech's investment in carbon offsetting projects. However, both the piano notes and the finger snaps in the beginning have enough high frequency edge to let them retain presence against the bass, and provide some texture to the notes. In many ways, the A10 is making the best of a bad situation, but it doesn’t do much to alleviate it. With the A10 plugged into the headphone jack of an LG UltraGear GP9 speaker providing a DTS Headphone:X audio mix, Fortnite had much more accurate directional panning. The HyperX are more comfortable, are better built, and have a more neutral sound profile, which some users may prefer. If voice chat is something you intend to suffer through on Switch, you shouldn’t have much issue hearing what your friends have to say (though admittedly the quality of their mic has a lot to do with that too). That’s not all that surprising, considering Astro is also a well-regarded industrial design company.

Setting up the Astro A10 is fine on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, but otherwise far more complicated than it needs to be. The Astro A10 is a wired, analog gaming headset, which means it works with every major game console (through the controllers on the PlayStation 4/5 and Xbox One/Series, and the Nintendo Switch in handheld mode), PC or Mac, and any phone with a headphone jack. These headphones aren't designed for that purpose, as they don't look very casual and struggle to block out common office noise like ambient chatter.Unfortunately, there aren't any sound customization options to help you tweak their sound to your liking. Given my love affair with the A50’s excellent ear-mounted controls, the A10 is a significant step down. Elden Ring sounded excellent, with every telltale growl, rustle, and twinkle coming through clearly. For gaming, they are fine; directional audio is certainly there and sounds of guns and explosions sound great, while footsteps, flashbangs, and all of the other typical in-game noises sound good too, and speech sounds clear. On the other hand, the A10 gives you a gaming experience without delay, and their microphone is noticeably better than the wireless A20.

The original HyperX Cloud is still probably my number one choice thanks in no small part to the fact it’s way more comfortable. Louder sounds, like a bus going by outside, are audible to whoever you're speaking with but won't drown out your voice. As it is, the A10’s design is a bit bland, and this from a company that’s usually so design-conscious.

The minimal vertical hinges I mentioned earlier made having a gap in the seal above my ears a pretty regular occurrence. I never ran into any distinct discomfort, however I noticed the plastic frame created a rather loud echo noise at the slightest bump, whether on the band or headphones. We've learned to appreciate how simulated surround sound can subtly add to first-person gaming, but audio quality and value are always greater considerations.
