However when a woman's body is found strangled and mutilated in the river and caught up in a boat's propeller Tanner is sure they have found their girl. And a big thank you to NetGalley and Black Oak Publishing for giving me the chance to read this ARC in exchange of my honest review. James Nesbitt says: “It’s great to be back making a drama in and about Northern Ireland, which now has a film and television industry as good as any in the world.

Archaeologist, Chris Kolonko, provided us with the background of those defences, the strategies behind them, and the people involved. Going back again - being told no ❌ - you don’t have experience of directing specific types of footage and shots. What Jennifer’s book doesn’t mention is that Herbert appears to have explored the possibility of some much grander plans for that site. I liked that whilst it's his story, he wasn't the main player in the investigation itself but gave a different point of view. Yes, he's tortured, like so many other fictional cops, but I found him to be a pretty straightforward, straight talking, decent and likeable chap. Would he really be able to put all the bonkers, irreverent humour behind him and set his mind to something a little more serious? The bridge itself was fitted with chambers which held explosives which could, as a last resort, be detonated to destroy the river crossing.

All in all, a cracking series opener which I thoroughly enjoyed and which left me hankering for the next one. The latest hand-held detection device and Licence Administration Support System is demonstrated by model frogman Chris Wilson. I recently picked up an interesting little curio which I thought I’d share with you in the run up to Christmas. I felt there was a lot of describing and not much action at first then toward the end of the story the action picked up with some twists and turns and unexpected events taking place that eventually tied all the various cases up in a bow. Although an amateur, Donald was an extremely talented photographer who captured some stunning images of Broadland during the Edwardian era.

The actor is due to travel back in time to play a young version of the former Doctor Who’s character in the series. Detective Inspector John Tanner is a destroyed man by his daughter's murder and from the crowded and crime-filled streets of London, he moves to a small village, Wroxham near Norwich, England. However, I believe the speed of the story, while not jarring, was too quick for the reader to truly get to know the characters. Original and smart in their sporting appearance, and efficient to a remarkable degree, they possess interior arrangements of such a commodious and comfortable nature, as would be common to craft of double the size. Gray Malkin was one of several ex admiralty craft which were repurposed for use on the Norfolk Broads after the Second World War, the most famous of which was probably the Fairmile B “Golden Galleon” which ran passenger trips from Great Yarmouth between the early 1950s and the 1990s and became a familiar sight crossing Breydon Water.

So, for all you who didn't quite gel with these books, and are not sure whether to take a punt on this series, have no fear, they are nothing the same! I found the book heavy on description: I knew so much about the police station that I felt I would have been in a position to make a bid for the cleaning contract. As restrictions on leisure boating eased in 1943, holiday boat hire resumed at the yard, but it seems that Herbert had his eye on a rather ambitious venture. Derek Horne and a couple of the other stars of the show were photographed by the family and appear in the scrapbook too. To me this seems inconceivable on one’s first day, that a junior officer would behave in such a manner and so quite unrealistic. The first view (above) looks towards the main building, with its canopied entrance, from the direction of the car parking area. Some claim they worked by picking up the electromagnetic signal given off by the old CRT TV’s and could pinpoint the exact room it was in, and even what channel you were watching. Over the next year those defences were consolidated further as new strategies and weaponry were developed.

These were a modern interpretation of the classic Victorian and Edwardian Broads yachts, and were each named after original Collins yachts – ‘America’, ‘Palace’ and ‘Lapwing’. He needed a new start and he'd been offered the job at Wroxham and a family friend had suggested that he could live on his boat. It is difficult to believe that Huts in these marshes would not sink into the mud – or that they could be approached in the winter without thigh boots.

One online comment I found from 2010 claimed to be from someone in the know: “ I used to work for TV licensing driving around in the detector van. The scope of the vacation can be gained to a certain extent from the brief diary and map in this book. During the 1950s and 1960s there were three such craft at Oulton Broad – the MTB “Foynes” and the MGB “Blue Lagoon” which were on hire with Pye Marine, and the MTB “Young Jim” from Newson’s boatyard. The common features of all of these camps were a large, central main building of very modern design with tennis courts, gymnasiums, ballrooms, dining halls and rows of holiday chalets designed to house the average family comfortably for a week or two.
