Ultimate Winter Beauty Guide – Think Pink, Kitty & Bright and You’ve Nailed It!

Pink eye may have been made famous as a disgusting infection in the hilarious 2015 action/spy spoof film Spy but now it’s making an explosion on the High Street. Glam rock eyelids are the go-to look and the pink invasion doesn’t stop there. Party it up with french manicured nails and bleached pink hair and you’re guaranteed to look out of this world. Hannah Ahmed helps pink up your palette with some top tips on how to get the look…

Creative Cat Eyes

cat eyes

Cat eyes and winged eyeliner in general is an easy way to make a simple look more exotic. This season make-up artists experimented with more exaggerated versions of this classic look. Winged liner helps elongate your eye for a more ‘feline-like’ appearance, hence the nickname ‘cat eye’. To help create your classic wing more unique, try incorporating a bit of colour, swapping out the traditional black for blue, red or purple. If that is a bit OTT for you, an easier alternative is using a pencil to line your waterline for a pop of colour.

Think Pink

Pink in general was a frontrunner this season, but pink eyeshadow really had its moment. Marni opted for delicate pastel pinks, whilst Prada experimented with bright fuchsias. Now, this definitely isn’t the easiest look to pull off – it is very easy to go from emulating Selena Gomez to looking like you have conjunctivitis. But worry not! When done right, pink can be flattering on everyone, whether you have blue, brown or green eyes.
Kiko offers a flattering coal pink that is easy to apply and more importantly, student-budget friendly. Colourpop also offers a host of affordable individual pink shadows as well as palettes. If you are looking to treat yourself, Marc Jacobs has a luxurious dreamy pink themed palette.

Getting Lippy

Bold and bright lips are a definite takeaway from this season. There are plenty of products on the market tailored to recreating all the different textures and finishes. Rihanna’s make-up line Fenty Beauty also deserves part of the credit for this trend, as pioneers in bright and non-conventional lip colours. If you want your lippy to last all day, opt for a mattifying liquid lipstick. If you prefer to keep your lips moisturised, then try a lip-gloss or a hydrating lipstick.

Nailed It

Nail art’s popularity has seen a boom in recent years thanks to apps like Instagram and Pinterest. This season highlighted a simplistic take on such nail art. Think your classic French manicure, but with an added rainbow effect. To create the look yourself, simply do a French manicure, but with two bright colours instead of the classic nude tones. If you want to take it further, try re-creating Moschino’s technique of painting the curved outline at the bottom of your nail. If you are struggling to create a uniform shape, then try using nail stickers, like these ones from Amazon.
