Who knew that using what was once a Russian measurement of weight gives you seriously toned biceps, triceps and glutes and burns huge amounts of calories?
Or that a 30-minute intense workout can burn over 100 calories for up to 48 hours? Like me, you may have tried out a fitness video in the comfort of your own flat, but with noone to shout at you drill instructor-style are you really going to push yourself to the same extreme? Seriously, who are we kidding?

Below is a non-exhaustive list of the go to classes if you want to improve muscle tone and fitness and leave you in an addictively euphoric state (it’s a fact).
The Arc Gym at Glasgow Caley offer all below-mentioned classes…just saying!

GRIND

This 30 minute high intensity interval training workout involves using lower and upper exercise combinations allowing the body to move in different planes of motion.
Class is split into 3 rounds of 8 exercises followed by the GRINDATOR (Finisher). You’ll work through different exercises each month to help, revive and reset your metabolism, leading to shaping, toning and conditioning your body. It’s suitable for all fitness levels.

CORE DE FORCE

An explosive mixed martial art style class where you kick and punch your way into dropping inches off your waistline, building a stronger core and strengthening your whole body.

The workout is split into 3 rounds where you’ll experience bodyweight combinations in Boxing, Kickboxing and Muay Thai. Your aim is to execute each move with power, precision and technique to shock and surprise your imaginary opponent like Connor McGregor. Suitable for all fitness levels.

CIRCUITS

Looking for variety in your workout? Hop from exercise to exercise, working the full body using a range of equipment.
No two classes are ever the same! Class can be difficult but easier options available. The only real breaks you will get, if you are lucky, are the short walks between your exercises.

Work every muscle in your body, so if you’re new to the gym and want to jump head first into serious aches and pains the next morning, look no further…you have been warned!

KETTLE BELLS

Kettlebells are funny looking metal balls with metal handles which started out as a unit of weight in 18th century Russia.
Somewhere along the line someone decided that these weights could be swung, pressed and chucked about for a good workout! You will work every muscle in your body, with a particular emphasis on legs, core and shoulders.

With a range of different weights you choose your own kettlebell. If exercises such as the Windmill, Pistol Squats or a Turkish Get Up intrigue you then get in here and the instructors will put you through your paces.

SPIN

Spin-Cycles

The class that has everyone imagining they are Victoria Pendleton for about an hour. Classes range from 30 to 60 minutes always including a series of challenging sprints and hill climbs. Not to mention whatever other challenges the instructor can come up with!

Instructor calls out the instructions so you never get lost. A great cardio workout that keeps you coming back for more. Spin is accessible for anyone from beginners to seasoned cyclists.

CORE CONDITIONING

A HIGH intensity workout lasting 30 minutes. A combination of kettlebells, dumbbells and bodyweight exercises.
We use these in unconventional ways to ensure a total body workout and keep you burning calories hours after you are finished.

The class will combine a variety of exercises with weighted carries to give your core a workout like no other!
It’s all combined into a series of challenges and races, the quicker you complete each part the more rest you earn. In this class it really pays to be a winner!!!

INSANITY/TABATA

Want to firm up? Get in here! These interval-based classes combine body weight strength training with high intensity cardio bursts designed to blast fat, improve your endurance and get you in ultimate shape.
Send your metabolism into overdrive to burn fat for hours after. Either 40 or 30 minute sessions and modification available for all fitness levels.

BODY PUMP

One of the world’s fastest ways to get in shape. Body Pump will give you a total-body muscular endurance workout, using adjustable weighted barbells.
Come along if you want to get lean, toned and fit. Great music, awesome instructors and your choice of weight inspire you to get the results you came for – and fast!
This class pushes you to your limit every time. Want to make up for over-indulging last night? Calories burned per class around 550.
