Check Out What’s On In Glasgow & Edinburgh

Scottish Queer International Film Festival

The Festival launches with Opening Night Shorts focusing on LGBTQIA+ community and activism. Adam and the Alphas depicts the camaraderie of gay rugby team, the Glasgow Alphas. Bodies Like Oceans follows self-described queer fat freak and photographer, Shoog McDaniel. I AM! We are Here! presents portraits of Queer, Trans* and Gender Non Conforming People of Colour in the Bronx, and more… They will welcome several of the filmmakers for a post-screening Q&A .

Centre for Contemporarty Arts, October 2-6. £various.

AXE CRAFT WORKSHOP

If Bear Grylls came to Axe Craft Workshop in Mount Florida he would be impressed but sadly redundant.
That’s because everyone there will have already learnt how to ‘forage for wood, prepare logs into blanks and whittle their own wooden objects’.
They may also all be ready to apply for The Island with Bear Grylls and no one will have to tell them the obvious things to do when they arrive; make a bed hammock swinging from the trees, find water and boil, keep the fire burning, search for food immediately and don’t sleep on the sand unless you want sandflies up your butt and a pizza face. With 13 in the team why can’t they get this organised? Seriously people! Lunch and all tools and materials provided. This is a physically demanding class – keep in mind when booking.

Mount Florida Studios, October 20. £90.

SAUSAGE & CIDER FESTIVAL

Did you think we only had space in this section for the rum festival? Move over rum, sausage and cider coming through. I mean, what can’t you do with bangers?
You can spice them, serve them in a whole array of meat varieties, swap the sausage intestine casing for some other part of the inners.
Add mash. Dip them in relish! In the spirit of being inclusive and attracting punters who don’t like cider, there are craft beer and gin bars so you can knock yourself out dipping your bangers into all types of beverage too. Get creative with those bangers is what no one said to anyone. Ever.

Corn Exchange, Oct 19. £11.10 – £22.20

EDINBURGH HORROR FESTIVAL

The Edinburgh Horror Festival returns with over a week of spine chillingly ghoulish delights. Theatre, magic, tours, comedy, stories, cabaret, special FX, movies and a couple of special events on at Lauriston Castle: The Twilight Seance has paranormal illusionist Ash Pryce leading you into the netherworld, join hands and whisper gently as the bells ring, objects levitate and the spirits make contact.
On at the Castle on Sat 26th and Sunday 27th October.
At the Lauriston Horror Tour you can hear blood chilling tales of murder, witch trials and persecutions that have plagued Edinburgh. Listen for the ghostly footsteps in the background which are part of the show…or are they? On at the Castle 26th and 27th October

Various venues, October 24 – November 3. £various.
