Description
This time, Grace is confronted with one of the most horrible crimes: making money of innocent animals. Discover the darkness that lurks around every corner in the latest instalment of the award-winning Grace series, now a major ITV series. A man is woken in the early hours by his dogs barking and when he checks, there are intruders on his land.

The range of different crimes covered are nothing new, but the way in which they are all brought together is done well and is a timely reminder to people about some of the dubious practises criminals are involved in. The case goes from bad to worse, danger levels rise and we follow one emotional storyline which drives home the reality of the horrific trade/ importation of dogs.
Since this crime alone wouldn't be sufficient to carry a novel, the author has fleshed the story out with other animal-related crimes and tied them all together seamlessly. In the middle of the night at an isolated farm, a farmer is crushed to death as he tries to stop a gang from stealing his dogs and his brood of new born puppies.

Grace again refers to a weekly poker night, running with his dog, getting into office early and working late, having a role with Police rugby team while supporting Albion. There are grim parts and very moving parts in this book, and it all together makes for a great story. These criminal masterminds are ruthless and don't stop at murder when a farmer confronts intruders about to steal five puppies and the parent dogs - and pays with his life. Another instalment featuring a bunch of well drawn characters we have got to know well and empathise with, layer upon layer of often interlocking crimes, an evil perpetrator and the certainty that good will overcome evil in the end.
Organised criminal gangs have identified a new market and are willing to do what it takes to make money. The first is the murder of a farmer who tries to prevent a theft from his farm in the dead of night. I would like to thank Netgalley and Pan Macmillan for an advance copy of Stop Them Dead, the nineteenth novel to feature Detective Superintendent Roy Grace of Sussex Police.
