Description

Sam Walton was born in 1918, to a lower-class family in Kingfisher, Oklahoma. The Waltons didn’t have much but Sam’s parents made sure he was taken care of. This practice, which brought his customers the lowest prices, however, led to complaints against the company for driving out smaller factories that couldn’t produce goods at the lower prices Wal-Mart, the United States’ largest private employer, demanded. During the first 8 years, Walmart was considered by some a failure because it was financially treading water. The book of founder of Wall-Mart is a classic biography book of a very successful business. It was fascinating to learn from the man that how he built one of the world's largest and most powerful corporations, from scratch! It was great and wonderful. Sam is a great man with strong values, despite all of the successes and failures Sam never sacrificed his core values. I would recommend this book to anybody who wants to start their own business. During the Great Depression in the late 1920s and early 1930s, Nan started a small milk business: Sam would milk the cows, his mother would bottle it and Sam would go out and deliver the milk to neighborhood customers.

Most people put their egos ahead and look at the competition to gloat about what they’re doing better. Efficiency is further explored in Chapter 15, in which Walton describes the business philosophy he used to guide Walmart’s growth. By controlling his expenses better than his competitors, thus creating a more efficient operation, he was able to establish and maintain an edge on his competition. No question about it, a lot of my attitude toward money stems from growing up during a pretty hardscrabble time in our country’s history: the Great Depression.” p.4 Sam Walton was always driven, ambitious and hard working. He was a leader in school and worked for his own money. After he opened his first store, he worked 6-7 days per week, starting before 5AM. 3. Stay humble: Sam Walton never forgot where he came from and never lost his humility. He always remembered that his success was due in large part to the hard work and dedication of his employees. Who is the author of Sam Walton: Made in America? He was always trying creative new ways of promoting specific products to increase their sales, including hanging items from the ceiling or putting them in a boat. And he encouraged his store managers to get creative too.

Walton, Sam (2012). Sam Walton: Made in America. Random House Publishing Group. p.18. ISBN 978-0-345-53844-4. What Sam Walton developed was a complete philosophy of business, one he outlined in his autobiography, “Made in America: My Story.” Value a manager's time: Buyers were required to return calls from store managers they buy for before sundown.
