An invitation to the Issey Miyake "A- N" exhibition, and an exhibition card and programme are loosely laid in at the front. Volume One: 40 pages, with text in English and Japanese, illustrated with 3 color plates and others in black and white; Volume Two: 24 pages, 14-color illustrations and a poem by Shuntaro Tanikawa, in English and Japanese. He also developed a friendship with Apple's Steve Jobs and produced the black turtlenecks which would become a part of Jobs' signature attire.

The photos were used as advertisements for Issey Miyake, they also made this limited run book of the stunning photographs the two artists collaborated on in the 80’s. the artists first met in 1983 while penn was doing an editorial shoot for american vogue featuring miyake’s clothing. In the late 1980s, he began to experiment with new methods of pleating that would allow both flexibility of movement for the wearer as well as ease of care and production.During this time in the 80’s Miyake had been working with several ballets and theatre plays doing costume design. An invaluable representation of an important relationship between both artists, this book unites their formidable talents, documenting Miyake’s women's clothing of the 1980s with Penn's influential photographic style. In an essay for the 1997 exhibition catalogue Irving Penn: A Career in Photography, Miyake reflected, “Through his eyes Penn-san reinterprets the clothes, gives them new breath, and presents them to me from a new vantage point—one that I may not have been aware of, but had been subconsciously trying to capture.
