She puts the pieces of the strange puzzle together and discovers it is a crow…a tattered crow made of clockworks.

Thank you Catherine Fisher, I have one wish for you, that a successful tv series comes of these books, and brings you the rewards you deserve, for sharing your magic with children. Seren is a spunky, brave and determined heroine and this book is completely gripping from first page to last, poetic without being difficult to read.Seren can picture it all: Captain Jones would be mustached, tall and imposing, and Lady Mair is sure to be lovely and kind. I haven't charted out my visits for the summer term, but I'm sure there are several in the south) and thanks so much for being so fantastic!

I would certainly recommend this book to someone else as it was a real cliff hanger and action story that I really loved. This is a fantasy that revolves around a young girl who lived for many years in an orphanage and she finally went to live with her godfather in a big mansion. The Welsh words were spotted (one member had enlisted her Welsh speaking grandparents to translate) and we looked at maps of the UK to find Wales (and Scotland, England and Northern Ireland while we were looking). These books by Catherine Fisher feel like extended fairy tales full of adventure, friendship and quite often danger. Seren is star in Welsh so we checked whether our names had hidden meanings and thought of the names we should have.Your words, like your reviews, bring books to life and give them a voice before the front cover is even turned. It was a great opportunity to see the children so engaged throughout the whole performance – literally from start to finish – they were “ooh”ing, “ahh”ing, laughing and following the story in a way I don’t think they’d have done so well in a normal theatre experience, or reading of said story. He’s flustered, clearly frightened of something, and leaves a bulky parcel in her care before disappearing.

It's a Gothic Christmas story for elementary grade about a Victorian-era orphan with a steam-punk talking crow who has to rescue a random stranger from the Welsh fae who have kidnapped him. Seren has lived in an orphanage for twelve years, since her parents died when she was a baby, but she is traveling to Wales, to an estate named Plas-y-Fran, to meet her godfather and his family, who have offered to take her in.I thought the clockwork crow’s sarcastic and grumpy attitude perfectly balanced Seren’s emotionally charged character and enjoyed the dialogue shared between the two of them. Mich hat die Handlung durchgehend mitreißen können und da sich der bildhafte, packende Schreibstil angenehm flüssig für mich hat lesen lassen und die Kapitel sehr kurz sind, bin ich nur so durch die Seiten geflogen und habe das Buch quasi in einem Rutsch durchgelesen. On her solo journey to Wales, Seren is given a mysterious package to look after by a stranger and ends up feeling obliged to take it with her.
