It’s also the complete opposite of the original film, wherein the characters are likable and you want them to succeed. It’s also worth noting that the Laserdisc release from Elite Entertainment also contained the original screenplay which featured the original ending, while the Japanese Laserdisc included an additional 20-minute interview with George.

They can't seem to help themselves from reverting back to the capitalistic belief that owning stuff provides comforting protection and signifies a well-valued life even as civilization collapses all around them and just outside their front doors. Interestingly, though, this version has only library music (The Goblins’ score was added later when the Theatrical Cut was complete). The Universal Blu-ray back in 2008 was rather “meh” considering it was encoded with the more bitrate intensive VC-1 codec, and Scream Factory’s 2017 release looked only marginally better in AVC. Surrounds get a good workout with all of the zombie munching and craziness that ensues from the escape, right down to the battle to get away from the mall at the end.

Updated daily and in real-time, we track all high-def disc news and release dates, and review the latest disc titles. A trio of Region Free, dual-layered UHD66 discs sit comfortably opposite a Region B locked, dual-layered BD50 disc containing all the supplements. The mono track is clean and bright, and as faithful as you can get to the original cinematic experience. When the survivors are inside of the mall it’s a bit more toned down, with dialog taking front and center combined with some mild ambient noises from the surrounding areas.

The absence of a wider colour range anNot included from the Synapse Films Blu-ray release of The Definitive Document of the Dead ( which we’ve also previously reviewed) is the original 60-minute version of the film. The black of course are improved which helps contrast with the colors to give them a bit more luster. You get three versions of the movie in 4K gloriousness, so crispy and beautiful, absolutely crystal clear and no specks.

Certain items can take longer to source than the estimated week, particularly during busy trading periods and may take longer to arrive at our warehouse. The rest of the extras consist of material produced for Universal’s DVD and Blu-ray releases, including several featurettes, a non-optional introduction by Zack Snyder, and a set of four side-by-side Storyboard Comparisons. However, I'm more fascinated by the four living survivors played by Ken Foree, Gaylen Ross, David Emge and Scott Reiniger. Romero’s Night of the Living Dead was a hugely influential film, not only in the horror genre, where it established the classic tropes of the zombie movie, but also in terms of low budget independent filmmaking.

With a clean, well-defined mid-range, atmospherics enjoy strong, fluid movement across the screen while the iconic score exhibits distinct clarity and excellent fidelity in the orchestration. Dawn of the Dead on 4K UHD sits in a black amaray case alongside two 1080p Blu-rays containing both the theatrical and unrated versions. This isn’t a bad looking image by any means, but the other cuts certainly have the edge in terms of detail, color, and contrast. Some of the special features are familiar from previous releases, but there are a couple new ones as well, including commentary tracks and interviews.
