About this deal

The grinder isn’t able to fully grind beans but all of the front buttons seem to be working as intended.

I also saw a short where you use the sage dosing funnel to wdt the puck before tamping, you removed the nozzle on the bottom. If what you're really looking for is bean to cup type convenience and user experience, meaning that you want to do as little as possible and you want the machine to handle as much of the process as possible, but you want true espresso vs bean to cup espresso, then the ultimate machine for you would probably be the Barista Touch Impress. Any procedure not listed in this instruction booklet should be performed at an authorised Sage Service Centre. PID stands for Proportional Integral Derivative, and it just means a feedback loop which enables something (in this case, temperature) to be constantly controlled. E – This is the tamper, and it slots away nicely here into the machine, which is a small thing – but a really nice touch as it just sits neatly here until the next time you wish to use it, rather than being lost in a kitchen cupboard somewhere.

The bean hopper takes quite some vertical space – but you say we shouldn’t refill each time we use the machine with beans kept in airtight storage.

We do not recommend the use of highly filtered, de-mineralised or distilled water as this may affect the taste of the coffee and how the espresso machine is designed to function. Please note that some used Sage items will come with a 6 month warranty, but this will be specified in the listing. If the coffee beans are very finely ground you will have a stronger taste and if the grind is coarser you will have a milder taste. What this means is that if you think you might want to really get into the home barista thing and start developing skills, but then you find it all too much of a pain, and you just want the machine to take over, you can just continue using the machine on Auto, so it takes control of the nerdy stuff. Put very simply, if you want to develop home barista skills, and you're approaching this from a hobbyist angle, there are better options, as there are if you're at the other extreme and you want the machine to take over as much of the process as possible. The steam wand performs at the level that allows you to hand texture micro-foam milk that enhances flavour and enables creation of latte art. Another common thing is that someone might want to get geeky at the weekends or whenever they have time off work, get out their box of barista tricks, scales, WDT tool, etc. The Barista Express has 18 grind settings, and the Pro has 30, but this doesn't mean the Express can't grind as fine, it's simply that the steps from one grind setting to the next are bigger.

If you were thinking of going for the Barista Express because you thought it was ultra convenient for getting great cup quality using freshly roasted high quality coffee beans, and you're hoping for a user experience closer to using a one-touch bean to cup coffee machine, then the Barista Touch Impress would be the obvious choice. Most of the mainstream coffee machine manufacturers, some of whom are doing their best to compete with Sage in the speciality coffee machine market, just don't have freshly roasted coffee beans at their core, they're still about 2nd wave big brand coffee. After adjusting the grind amount dial and following the steps mentioned above, you should now be capable of achieving the desired minimum and maximum amounts of ground coffee in the portafilter. The soaking allows the beans to expand and open up a tad before the high pressure releases all of the flavours. The fact that they contacted me (via their agency) and sent me their La Specialista Arte', would also suggest that they're trying to make some noise in this market. I was informed that it most likely is because I didn’t use a step down transformer, and I would need to purchase one.

If you’re thinking of something like up to 20 or so double espressos per day, the machine would be fine with that, but if you might do this within a period of just a few hours and a lot of them are cappuccino, flat white or latte for instance, you may find a machine like this will be too slow, as you can’t steam milk and pull shots at the same time, as you would if you were using a dual boiler or heat exchanger machine which allows you to pull shots while you’re steaming milk. Checkout my friends at Coffee Hit, one of the UK's most established suppliers of pro and home barista gear. Innovative grinding cradle allows any at-home Barista to grind directly into the espresso portafilter.

Repeat steps 1 and 2 to complete the descaling process and empty the descaling solution from the reservoir. Finance is provided by PayPal Credit (a trading name of PayPal UK Ltd, Whittaker House, Whittaker Avenue, Richmond-Upon-Thames, Surrey, United Kingdom, TW9 1EH).
