About this deal

I had hoped for it sooner as I was on sabbatical 2018/19 and had to leave the physical copy at home. I love the rhythm of this liturgy, the way the prayers work deep into your heart and mind (as you use them more and more), going with you throughout your day, and bringing you back again. In the meantime, I'm tempted to take them out and laminate them for daily use, saving the rest of the book for their fascinating, inspiring readings. Both volumes of Celtic Daily Prayer are a complex mixture of writing original to Northumbria Community, along with some third party and out-of-copyright material, and so we thought it would help to offer some guidelines to simplify the process of seeking permission to use the material they contain. As a companion for the journey, this book offers meditations for the events of life, and liturgies for its seasons.

When there is no information about the particular needs of the persons, families and situations brought to mind, the following prayer is helpful: These dear ones, O Lord, bless Thou and keep in every place where they are. We are currently offering the option to purchase our Daily Office Cards, and the sheet music for May the Peace of the Lord Christ go with you, as PDF downloads. As a result, they are very precious to us and we ask that anyone making use of them does so with respect. This may seem unfamiliar to the many who are used only to modern language, but it is a deliberate attempt to highlight the contemporary relevance of the treasure of prayer from long ago.

My only complaint is -- and it's why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 -- that the paperback is soon losing its morning-prayer pages since I refer to them everyday, so I wonder if the hardback wouldn't be a better choice. In this respect the Community follows the rich tradition of monastic communities through the centuries. At Nether Springs, the mother house of the Community, the Office is said or sung at set times in the chapel; when Companions in the Community meet together, saying the Office can be a routine part of the meeting; and individuals and families can use it in their homes as part of daily life.

The Northumbria Community is a dispersed network of people, hugely diverse, from different backgrounds, streams and edges of the Christian faith, united in their desire to embrace and express an ongoing exploration into a new way for living. A friend of mine suggested that I get this book to help with my daily quiet time, because I was struggling to find something to hang my routine on without becoming stale. brilliant as can read that and sing along to the music versions on iPad and iPhoneThis really helps and makes it so easy. This book combines our earlier Celtic Daily Prayer and Celtic Night Prayer books, and adds to them fresh material born out of the further development of the Northumbria Community’s ways of worship in the intervening years since these books were published.

They are born out of our Community’s story, have been lived and prayed throughout our journey, and enshrine our ethos. We have used it as a family around the table, as a church for weekend retreats, as well as for personal prayer times.Although some of the sections are liturgical in nature, this collection of prayers, devotionals, and historical bits( from Celtic evangelical 'saints') is full of encouragement. It is a unique resource for personal and group devotions, both for daily use and on special occasions.
