About this deal

This one is for the budding baby witches looking to build up their collection of mystic accessories and tools, and get fully equipped for entering the world of witchcraft. It takes the reader through the occult side of London through the ages, but for me, it came across more as a collection of addresses and places to visit than an actual introduction to what makes London an occult place. Today we are experiencing a renewal of interest in the occult tradition, and Merlin Coverley examines the roots of this revival, exploring the rise of New Age philosophies and the emergence of psychogeography in shaping a new vision of the city.

Sections on usual suspects like Dee, Hawksmoor, and the millionth retelling of Aleister Crowley's pernicious influence create long passages of quicksand-like boredom.a great little reference book, entertainingly written and full of fascinating information about the mysterious side of England's capital city - Lucya Szachnowski, www. The Victorians were obsessive about all matters of the supernatural and the legend of Spring-Heeled Jack, the Bogeyman of London, persisted throughout the reign of Queen Victoria. And, of course, Arthur fought twelve battles and there were twelve knights of the ‘round’ table; one for each of the twelve constellations perhaps? These include settlements at Wimbledon Common, Heathrow and the present-day Houses of Parliament, to name a few.

Behind the official façade promoted by the heritage industry lies a city of esoteric traditions, obscure institutions, and forgotten locations. The book charts London’s mysterious psychogeography, explores its myths and legends, and provides a gazetteer of its most resonant locations. while Crowley's life and some of his achievements are described, some information is wrong and misleading. From an occult perspective there was a less tangible, but no less fundamental, change in consciousness starting to take place: the introduction of Mithraism, and the theology of ‘as above, so below’.A belief in the occult appears to have helped London achieve prosperity during periods of pending adversity.

This small museum in Bethnal Green is a treasure trove of all the oddities collected by the eccentric Victor Wynd. I love reading about London and it's not so glorious histories and characters, I really was looking forward to this book.Covered are John Dee, William Blake, Spring Heeled Jack, Highgate Vampire, Arthur Machen, Golden Dawn, Swedenborg, Rabbi Falk, Hawksmoor and more. To my shame I know relatively little about London's occult history, even considering that half my family are from there and I was born there.

The Knights Templar outgrew their headquarters and built Temple Church between Fleet Street and the River Thames, a round church based on the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. This is not a reference to the ninth-best song ever written by John Squire, but rather the catchphrase of Aleister Crowley. The personalised birth charts can deepen your own astrological knowledge or make for a thoughtful present for that friend who’s obsessed with her horoscope.
