About this deal

There are several different threads to this story, which are all pulled seamlessly together, making it a really enjoyable read. To feel that he is still doing something for the war effort, he decides to join the ARP and spends his evenings going towards the bombed areas rather than running away from them. But I won't spoil things for you, I will just say that the author definitely puts both his readers and his characters through quite a lot in this book. The members of staff at The Buckingham Hotel, London are carrying on as normal for all the guests staying there.

Meanwhile the ballroom is still operating, and the staff are keen to attract top quality guests and provide a haven from the War.

This is clearly part of a series, but does also stand alone as the reader is soon brought up to speed. Although I haven’t read the prequels to this book I still felt as though I could pick it up and follow the story without feeling muddled, though that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t mind reading the start of Raymond De Guise’s, Nancy’s as well as the other staff members stories.

Not only from the real evil enemy and their bombings, but also closer to home from looters and profiteers. Unfortunately I was only able to give this book 3 stars because it was edited so badly that I almost couldn't read it. However, the process for writing this book was clearly different and the stylistic differences made it a thoroughly enjoyable read. With profiteers skulking the London streets, and devious rivals plotting the Buckingham's downfall, the hotel staff must all hold onto what matters most- and decide where their loyalties truly lie. You don't need to be a Strictly fan to relish this lively read, its glamour, magic and colourful characters contrasting starkly with the privations of grey, war-torn London. But, at the same time, knew that the end of the book also marked me having to say goodbye to the characters again for a while. Billy manages to get her a job at the hotel, in housekeeping, but it doesn't all go according to plan.

As usual they approach a member of the team who they feel might be a weak link and easily exploited.

Set in the war post Dunkirk and mid London blitz we are introduced to a catalogue of characters from behind the scenes. This book was just magical, it transports you to 1940s London in the time of the blitz and how the show must go on at the Buckingham Hotel. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.
