Description

I started this novel after I went through all the positive (and oftentimes emotional reviews) but then I was left with disappointment but also some understanding of why some others actually like it.

I’ve laughed to the point of tears, and cried because of the heartwrenching emotions while reading this (I finished all of the story, reading the remaining parts in Chinese). There isn't a single speck of character development throughout the entire volume which is pretty long, like yes I know that 2ha as a whole is very long and he'll get there probably but it's a fact that I cannot get invested in his character within the first volume. Yet strange new tragedies continue to unfold, and Mo Ran finds himself working alongside Chu Wanning to hunt down the mysterious culprit—a cruel mastermind who may know more about Mo Ran than even he remembers.

But later, little by little, with his s*upid brain he started to realize that his entanglement of hate/love with his Shizun in both lifetimes occupies his thoughts much more and means to him a lot more. He thought it was only the satisfaction of seeing him suffer, until Chu Wanning dies and Mo Ran realizes his whole reason for existence perished with his shizun. Was it an allusion to Wanning being smaller than MoRan, or him being a bottom- because that's reigning in something I do not want to touch on.

While I agree I would have dnfed it had it been a contemporary, my brain is wired differently when I pick up danmei novels.

It's hard to say I enjoyed this book, theres ASPECTS of it that I liked but for the most part I did not enjoy it or spent my time reading it rolling my eyes. Be aware that he won’t shy away from telling you every single terrible thing he had done, so I wouldn’t recommend this if you can’t manage to enjoy very gray characters. Wearied down by grudges of a lifetime ago, in his teenage body, he vows to avenge everyone who had wronged him in his previous life. And after the secrets are revealed and things come to light that stayed hidden from him in the past life, he redeems himself, learns to love and forgive and cherish, and when Chu Wanning tells him that Hell is too cold and he is accompanying Mo Ran, Mo Ran's response was one that had me in tears.
