About this deal

Katrin Himmler's book Die Brüder Himmler: Eine deutsche Familiengeschichte was published in 2005 in Germany by S. She decided to investigate and, using documents, letters and interviews, she uncovered the story her family had kept hidden. Heinrich grew up to become the head of Hitler's SS, mastermind of the concentration camp system and chief perpetrator of the Holocaust. I commend her for moving forward and telling the back story to Himmler that no one other then a relative could possibly tell.

While a portrait of a specific family, it shows how inculcated cultural beliefs along with the aftermath of WW1 which humiliated German pride and the political turmoil between democracy, communism, and the extreme right, provided fertile soil for the nightmare of the Nazi platform. It also offers a unique account of one women’s courageous attempt to deal with her chilling inheritance.

Himmler is one of the protagonists of the television documentary Hitler's Children (in German: "Meine Familie, die Nazis und Ich") [4] of the Israeli director Chanoch Zeevi about descendants of the Nazi elite, amongst them Rainer Höss.To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. She told an interviewer: "When my husband and I had our son, it became clear I had to break with the family tradition of not speaking about the past. This may result in small marks to the dustjacket and title page, please also bear in mind that each signature will be a little different from the one we show here. You are the grandniece of Heinrich Himmler, the second most powerful Nazi and one of the biggest war criminals ever. Despite the opportunity to take her spouse's surname, she chose to keep the name Himmler, rather than deny her heritage.

Furthermore, if those who decide the allocations of the real and unreal are cruel, mad or colossally wrong, what then? It provides detailed descriptions of the way Nazism developed and the part her grandfather and his two elder brothers played in the rise of the Nazis.Originally written as self-therapy, the book stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of guilt the Nazis left behind for future generations. Briefe eines Massenmörders“ (Piper) and, at the same time, „Heinrich Himmler d’après sa correspondance avec sa femme 1927-1945“ (Plon).

Having seen Germany prosper and then disintegrate during the years between the wars, they would have felt Hitler had help make Germany strong again. The shame seems understandable from Katrin Himmler's own father's perspective as he is one of the children born to these brothers. It should be read not only by anyone who is interested in the history of the period but also by everyone who doesn't want to see it repeated. I found her revelations about other members of the Himmler family who were also loyal, card carrying Nazi's to be very interesting as well. Bookplates are official labels which are signed by the author and then fixed to the title page of the book. This is a very well-written and profoundly honest story of the family of a monster - but an ordinary man who lived in extraordinary times. It is an intriguing insight into a nobody who became totally corrupt with his misguided and evil credo and who never knew when to stop. This riveting family memoir provides essential new information on the private life and background of one of the twentieth- century’s most notorious killers – not a lone evil executioner, but a middle-class family man, loved and fully supported by his respectable German family. Katrin Himmler’s cool but meticulous examination of the Himmler story reveals – in all its dark complexity – the gulf between the ‘normality’ of bourgeois family life and the horrors perpetrated by one member. Impelled by a request from her father, Ms Himmler began her journey believing her family's narrative.
