I had picked that one, Bones, for a few reasons, but mainly because authors Alex Smith and JE Mayhew have both recommended the author and series. Like most kids’ authors, most of my income came from doing school events, and I got asked to go to a school in Elgin and talk about how kids can publish their own books. So I was quite tempted to see if I could redeem him a bit in the eyes of the people who hate him, if I could still stay true to his character but turn him into a three-dimensional character that people identified with.

If you haven't read this or the previous three, please give them a go, you really are in for a treat. How wrong I was… The Hoon series was a rollicking ride from beginning to end and what an end it was, too! The technical storage or access is strictly necessary for the legitimate purpose of enabling the use of a specific service explicitly requested by the subscriber or user, or for the sole purpose of carrying out the transmission of a communication over an electronic communications network. Then when people were asking about merchandise, I had all the rights, so I did T-shirts, mugs, and we were able to exploit audio fully, because a lot of my books the audio rights were with the publishers but they never did anything with them. And so, if he and everyone else in the centre are going to make it home for Christmas, Hoon is left with only one choice.

Reading through the lines was stressful because the narrative lacked mystery and was more like an action movie script. For example, with the JD Kirk group, a lot of the readers are older and are on Facebook and some were alone at Christmas, so we did a kind of Christmas get-together. If you haven’t read Northwind, Southpaw, Westward and Eastgate, do yourself a favour and get stuck in. But the Noon series was a hoot, and I highly recommend it to anyone that doesn't mind blood, guts, gore, and a filthy mouth! What was it that took you down that path of publishing, and what kind of benefits do you think it grants you as the author?I absolutely love the characters in this series and it was great to have a little more crossover between this series and the DCI Logan one. From the opening paragraph to the closing line this is a roller-coaster of tension, humour, gore, pathos. Like Die Hard it takes place during a single day, and what we at first think is happening is by far not the whole story. This conscious framing of the book as a Die Hard set in the Highlands is complemented by Bob Hoon, who’s written very much in the hard-boiled mode with a number of genre winks and familiar characterisations.

There’s a different charity every 3 months – the first one was set up by an old school friend whose son died of cancer when he was a year old, so they’ve set up a charity for raising awareness for children with cancer. It is an excellent read for fans of Reacher and Bourne, or anyone who loves great action flicks or books. If there is one line that had me spilling my whisky it was the description of the skinny jeans, possibly my biggest (of many) chuckles. And, as the series progressed, I took a perverse delight in making Bob that bit worse in every book.JD Kirk lives in the Highlands of Scotland with his wife, two children, and a number of sturdy umbrellas. I am looking forward to reading more of the Logan and hopefully Hoon novels and books from Kirk’s other pen names. It was almost like a Christmas Special this one, because the cast of the Logan series are in it, it rounds off the Hoon series, it’s kind of a big explosive action-packed ending with all the characters the readers have come to love over the course of the series, with a bit of social commentary on male entitlement in there too through the villains. Eastgate is the fourth and apparently final book in the Bob Hoon series, about a belligerent foul mouthed ex-policeman who just can’t stay out of trouble. They are a wonderful mixture of action and comedy (with a lot of swearing and gore, but so worth it) and they just get better as the series progresses.
