Handcrafted in small batches by fourth-generation mezcaleros, our Joven, Reposado, and Añejo mezcals are all made with perfectly ripe, sustainable Espadín agave, double distilled in the Santiago Matatlan Valley of Oaxaca, Mexico.

Its aroma are fresh and youthful, with fresh flowers, peppermint and tobacco notes all coming through. Somehow it still managed to leave a weird ginger like flavor lingering in my mouth… Lol this stuff is terrible, I don’t know how it survives on the shelf. The company had a very successful marketing campaign around the phrase “Donald eres un Pendejo” in 2016 for the US election. Ilegal Mezcal Joven was awarded Double Platinum, the highest award, in the ASCoT Awards, blind-tasted and scored for appearance, aroma, taste, and finish. Crafted by the expert mezcaleros at Ilegal Mezcal in Oaxaca, Mexico, this young mezcal is made with 100% Espadín agave, roasted in underground pits and fermented with wild yeasts.The placement of mesquite and eucalyptus to heat the ovens is done in such a way that the piñas will have less direct contact with the coals, and thus creates a more even and consistent roasting. More fitting of a Soderbergh film, Ilegal's history is full of bandits, river rafts, bribes and disguises. In late 2009, Ilegal Mezcal became legal and today is carried in over 25 US states, Australia and countries in both Europe and the Caribbean.

Eucalyptus and mineral aromas compliment hints of green apple, pear, fresh citrus, and red chiltepe, with light smoke and lingering heat. In the case of Ilegal Joven, the Espadín agave once again proves its versatility by triggering aromas of citrus, green apple and a hint of white pepper.
