Maverick must confront his past and his fears as a mission that may demand the ultimate sacrifice from those involved draws near. But none have advanced the technology of aviation cinematography as far or as effectively as Top Gun: Maverick. If you don’t know anything about Oblivion – have managed to avoid the more revealing trailers and promotional material – then I strongly recommend you book yourself some tickets and go see it on the biggest screen you can find. But above all else, it delivers honest, well-earned emotions and a satisfying ending, twisting and turning just enough along the way to keep things interesting.

This is not a Atmos mix that makes continual use of sound objects in the height plane but, rather uses the overheads to accentuate pointed effects that blend with the bed channels. I have a nice sub (singular) that should go below 20Hz with room extension but my listening volume is well below reference. The material on this site may not be reproduced, distributed, transmitted, cached or otherwise used except with the prior written permission of The Digital Bits, Inc.It’s application here is used very well drawing upon HDR’s ability to create stark contrast between the two. Right from the opening shots IMAX shots at the hangar followed by the Mach testing sequence, it’s obvious that this presentation is going to be special. Forging The Darkstar—Pushing the limits beyond Mach-10, the future of aviation is unveiled through an impressive experimental aircraft specially designed for the movie. When brought together, the combination of rich color, sepia, and gradational gray tones literally pop off of the screen. Take your pick, the sequences at Top Gun is San Diego, inside Penny’s Bar or in the air, look terrific, delivering the goods with eye catching goodness that put a smile on my face.

tearing across the terrain at low altitudes and high speeds, and pulling off a number of jaw-dropping manoeuvres. I am against the idea of movies that almost feel like they're made literally for the sole purpose of trying to win BP. Ultimately little more than an advert for the US Navy, The Final Countdown is still an interesting time capsule of an experiment which makes for a great, if surprising, Native 4K Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos release. Gun character and charisma that has made that original one of the most beloved films of its, or any, time.Where Scott found trouble managing things like the sun-kissed opening sequences, having to pay off the aircraft carrier's captain to turn the ship, Kozinski's DOP would find this process much smoother, with a captain prepared to go that extra mile to get the right lighting, just because the original movie highlighted what everybody was aiming for. There's a veritable tick box list of classic Top Gun clichés and each and every one of them is fabulously delivered with not only fist-pumping fan-service but also some degree of thought put into their necessity in the plot (playing ball-games on the beach is no longer just a product of having surplus baby oil).

Whether you're looking for the latest blockbuster release, a TV series you want to binge, or a classic film - you'll find what you need in our categories. I thought something was wrong in my setup so i ran the Dolby Atmos demo disc and it was perfectly fine. As perhaps you might only expect from the director of Tron: Legacy and Oblivion, Maverick is a visual wonder, shot, framed to perfection, and toned, and that's even before it gets off the ground. The attention to detail here is noticeably on display, with the training sequences, beginning with the initial one, through to the one that Maverick completes on his own, being good examples. The cinematography makes frequent use of shadows, cascading/streaming light and a blend of light/dark elements.

It was shot using Sony Venice cameras with an array of Lenses (including Sigma, Arri, Fujifilm, Zeiss, Canon, Premier, with optical extenders reportedly akin to rifle scopes to track aircraft in the distance), captured at 6K source format with a 4K master format Digital Intermediate. Maverick' isn't too bothered with that element and I think even Cruise would admit to that (maybe reluctantly). If you’ve enjoyed Maverick via 4K steaming these past few months, you’ll find your jaw hitting the hard deck thanks to the physical disc’s far less compressed and more dimensional image. You also get an interesting look at the creation of the Darkstar scramjet mock-up, which was actually designed and built by Lockheed Martin’s Skunk Works for the film. For the week that ended on February 25th, Walt Disney Home Entertainment's Black Panther: Wakanda Forever remained on top of both the Blu-ray-only and overall packaged media charts in its third week.
