Don’t hope to get anything done in the next few days because I binge read this due to short chapters, addicting material and a suspenseful plot! A detective hiding dark secrets, Kim Stone will stop at nothing to protect the innocent. Silent Scream is the first book in the series. Watch out for Evil Games, coming soon.

Then a young man’s body is found in a local lake with his throat cut and Kim makes a link between the victim and Samantha. They both spent time at Unity Farm, a retreat for people seeking an alternative way of life. Five figures gather round a shallow grave. They had all taken turns to dig. An adult sized hole would have taken longer. An innocent life had been taken but the pact had been made. Their secrets would be buried, bound in blood… I loved D.I. Stone right from the beginning. It’s not a matter of knowing when to turn her filter on or off, it’s that she doesn’t seem to have a filter. So, what you see, is what you get with her… at least most of the time. Sending one of her own undercover into Unity Farm is high risk but it’s Kim’s only hope if she is to catch a killer – someone Kim is convinced the victims knew and trusted.MY THOUGHTS: The cover states that this is an edge of the seat serial killer thriller - and yes, it does deliver what it promises!

When the lifeless body of a man is found on an industrial estate, Detective Kim Stonearrives on the scene and discovers he’s been tortured in the worst way imaginable. There's odd episodes dropped in here and there that don't particularly connect to this mystery and just seem to be left hanging. For example an interviewee is obviously attracted to DI Stone which might have made an interesting twist, but it doesn't go anywhere. Then she verbally spars with an expert at a crime scene who has a one eyed dog and that doesn't go anywhere. While I liked the overall feel of the prequel better, the mystery of this book is really well done. I’m actually pretty proud that I was able to solve it since her first one stumped me. The way Marsons’ writes her mysteries makes you excited if you can actually figure them out. That part is what I love about reading good mysteries and these books sure don’t disappoint.Seemingly outwitted at every turn, as they uncover a trail of bodies, Stone realises that these ruthless killers might be the most deadly she has ever faced. And that their chances of bringing the girls home alive, are getting smaller by the hour… When Detective Kim Stone is called to a local business, what she sees leaves her speechless. The photo on the driving license bears little resemblance to the man laid out before her, and she knows she’s up against the most twisted killer she has ever encountered.
