Delilah's eyes flipped open at the buzz on the nightstand. She blinked the unfamiliar room into focus, once . . . twice. It had to be at least two in the morning, maybe later. She fumbled for her phone, silky white sheets tangling around her naked thighs as she twisted to silence the vibrating, which seemed loud enough to wake up- Claire (h) was also pretty great. She was so sweet and caring, and she's been through so much :( She's a single mother, a very admirable one. I really enjoyed her character. There’s family drama, trauma, childhood memories, love, romance, diverse relationships between not just the main couple, but everyone in the book, that’ll have you on the edge of your seat. The novel also does a great job of inputting a queer love story in the middle of an enticing read.”— USA Today

the word "lesbian", in a book with a lesbian mc, was used 6 times (yes, i counted), and only twice by a character describing herself (although that was one scene and frankly it barely counts, it was more like a joke). interesting, to say the least. not to mention i was expecting a butch lesbian mc, and got uhh... a girl who wears sport bras in public? or something? I did like Delilah overall; even tho sometimes I was like GROW UP. Both Delilah and Claire are hotties from their description, both my type LOL. I thought they had good chemistry but Claire’s issues with her baby daddy sometimes made me feel she still had real feelings for him too? The first half of this book is really engaging–alternately sweet, sharp, satirical, pointed and fun. The chemistry between Delilah and Claire shines and feels organic, and the kisses and love scenes are not only steamy but fraught with unexamined motives and secret intimacy. There’s a lot of humor in the book, too, though some of it was a bit too farcical to fit well with the complex tone of the rest of the book. But I did find a lot of it entertaining. My first full 5 Star book of 2022! I loved this. This is exactly the type of romance I want to read and I could not be happier. While I have never read Blake before, I have a few of her YA books sitting on my Kindle waiting to be read, so when I saw she wrote a sapphic adult romance, I just knew I had to read it. I was also happy to see that Berkley keeps putting out new sapphic books and I hope they continue since they have all been enjoyable. Anyway, this is a book I would absolutely recommend to any romance fans and I’m hopeful that people will enjoy it as much as I did. All in all, this was a pretty delightful read for both Amy and I. I was a bit bothered by the amount of attention given to the family drama on the side. Although I know many like romance books to have a 'plot', I didn't really enjoy all the wedding shenanigans and something about photography is really boring to me 🤷‍♀️. I'm all for creative hobbies but, I can't lie, I don't really care about characters whose true passion is that 🙊. Though it was sweet to see Delilah teaching Ruby.A hot, frothy romcom with a relatable heart beating at its centre. I loved every hilarious character, every outrageous shenanigan – and most of all, I loved Delilah Green. I can’t wait for the rest of the series! ‘ Talia Hibbert, New York Times bestselling author of Act Your Age, Eve Brown Bottom line: You may be tempted to cancel me for this take, but just remember - YOU LIKE ME FOR MY UNPOPULAR OPINIONS! i didn’t think her character was utilised properly, especially since she’s the eponymous character. finishing the book, i still don’t feel like i know all that much about Astrid Parker.

Blake captures all the complications of family, friendship, and romance with humor and heart."— KirkusHer stepsister didn't say anything for a few seconds, but the silence was long enough for Delilah to know she'd be on a morning flight out of JFK. Astrid blew out a breath so loud, it buzzed in Delilah's ear. "Okay. Okay, I'm sorry, I'm just stressed. There's a lot going on."

As for where Astrid Parker Doesn’t Fail ended up losing me in places… I honestly think it might simply come down to particular differences in perspective. And while I don’t think they made Astrid Parker a bad book or even a “less good” book than Delilah Green (that is absolutely not what I’m saying here), they did ultimately make this a book that spoke to me less. And I’m going to try to talk about the hows and whys of that, not because I am saying there’s anything wrong with Astrid Parker as a work of fiction, or wrong with the way it explores and presents identity, but because it’s easy to forget marginalised people aren’t monoliths. And it’s okay to have representations of marginalised identity that—for whatever reason—do not happen to reflect the experiences and worldview of every reader who shares elements of that marginalised identity.rep: bi mc, lesbian mc, bi characters, lesbian character, sapphic side charactetrs, nonbinary side character Should you get that?" Linda asked, tousled hair falling adorably over one blue eye. No way this sex goddess's name was Linda. What I expected was a funny, charming, badass queer MC that executes the relationship bet trope well, with maybe some sharp insights on family and grief. What I got was an MC who is so caught up being incredibly petty and bitter, she tries to ruin her step sister’s wedding events at every turn, she tries to use and discard someone who she knows has suffered heartbreak and has a complicated life with a pre-teen as a single mom, she doesn’t take any accountability for her actions, AND she doesn’t exhibit any self awareness or reflection of how the grief of her losses may have affected how she interacts and treats others until the very very end - and even then, it’s cursory at best.
