She Reads Truth is a worldwide community of women who read the Bible together every day. Founded in 2012, She Reads Truth invites women of all ages to engage with Scripture through daily reading plans, online conversation led by a vibrant community of contributors, and offline resources created at the intersection of beauty, goodness, and Truth. What we want to explore this week is: What is true of God’s word? And, what does that mean for us? How do these foundational truths about Scripture change the way we engage with it and with God? Can we trust the Bible? Do we trust it? The She Reads Truth Bible + Devotional app allows women from around the world and all places in life to connect with God's Word and each other, anytime and anywhere. Whether your Truth time comes in the early morning before the world wakes, a 30-minute lunch break at your desk, or in the middle of the night with a newborn baby in your arms—the She Reads Truth app brings your quiet (or not so quiet!) time to YOU, right where you are. Again. I love the content of SRT. I love the studies. I love the aesthetic (though not so much of this new app—it’s too harsh for me—but if that’s what you want then it’s fine). It’s very confusing to me why the app was changed so much, taking away good functionality and maneuvering.

As we get started, would you take a few minutes (six, actually) to watch this helpful introductory video? Timelines throughout the reading are really helpful in following along with the big story of the Bible chronologically and how different books fit together. This update does not seem to the case of change for functionality. Instead, it seemed to have tried to make it look prettier and more streamlined without making it any easier to use. If anything, it’s more complicated. I can’t seem to find anything or change my information. I keep hearing rumblings of a part of the app that plays music but I can’t find it (it was mentioned in the Hymn devos a few times). If that part of the app is no longer available, that’s fine but why keep it in the devos? Nothing seems to work properly and I kind of stopped using the app because of it. Which is honestly a shame. The colors are carefully selected for each book to help teach us about the genre we are reading — green is history and pink is poetry. That is pretty nifty! It is color with purpose! And this is across the board, maps, dividers – you name it they have paid attention to making the interaction visually stimulating. She Reads Truth is concerned for women to be prepared to read their Bibles

I think the app needs a rehaul or, at the very least, to be tweaked to be more user friendly. I love SRT and would love to start using the app again! David divides the psalm into 22 sections, one for each letter of the Hebrew alphabet, and we will read just a few sections each day. Our prayer is that, like David, we will allow our love for God’s Word to be the invisible thread that runs not only through this study but through our very lives. As Nancy Guthrie said in the video above, we can’t depend on yesterday’s truth meal. We need one today.

Bible reading plans for individual books and for the whole Bible help readers dive into the text with an easy to follow guided reading plan. I love SRT. There was a time when I would use it daily. But sadly, that just isn’t the case anymore. Over the next 9 days we will study the characteristics of God’s Word, the Bible, the Holy Scriptures. Never heard of it? Well, its fairly new, but a great translation that remains true to the text (much like the ESV), but very readable to the modern reader. They have also slipped in a small, but important gratitude list for each book that will motivate you to read and give thanks for that particular book of the Bible. It wouldn’t be an honest review of the She Reads Truth Bible if I didn’t say …Beautiful! This is a gorgeous Bible! From the leather cover and cover color choices to the calligraphy and layout–the Bible is aesthetically pleasing. And if that helps you get into God’s Word more than it’s definitely a good thing! This is great if you’re a visual learner, but the aesthetics will make most women get excited to be in her Bible.
