Poor drainage. If the plant is in very wet soil, it will not be able to take up nutrients from the soil. Re-pot into good quality, free-draining compost and allow to dry out. Avoid leaving the plant sitting in water. I sprinkled some seeds on top (but not all of them – I will keep some to sow at a later date) and covered with soil, patted down and watered gently.

And change it does. Once I have hardened the young plants off, I start preparing the pots where they will spend the rest of the season. I now move on to a fertilizer called Vitax V4.This fertilizer has an NPK of 5.3: 7.5: 10. My main focus now is root development. I prepare the pots by adding 3 to 4 tablespoons of fertilizer, a handful of garden lime and 4.5 gallons of potting soil. Coconut coircan also be added. To add it, I reduce the soil content. I used this fertiliser last year and was impressed with the results. So much so that I have made it my standard for final potting on Given that seaweed extract is not a fertiliser in itself, I decided that I will no longer use it for that purpose in my experiment. Instead, I will use it as a supplement to Chilli Focus. This means that instead of a batch being tested using seaweed extract alone, I will now decide whether seaweed extract enhances the performance of Chilli Focus. This will be done using the control batch. Complete Nutrition: Contains all 12 essential minerals, including calcium, for a well-rounded nutrient profile suited to chillies and peppers.

This chilli plant food is a precise formulation for optimal performance of chillies in pots, grow bags or even in the ground. This is dictated to you by the amount of sun and growth that is occurring and judging what is happening will allow to apply the right amount feed at the right time so you don’t get an excessive build up of nutrients in the soil Not that I will be resting on my laurels. I am also trying something new for the first time this season. A friend was kind enough to give me a bag of horse manure. I have made sure it is well-rotted and will be trying it in my final potting later this season. It will be interesting to see how the horse manure and Vitax mixes compare I continue feeding the plants at this dosage until they need to be potted on again. This is when they have reached the same size as their pot. The same size as pot rule then applies, and I pot them into the next size up container It was while thinking this through that a vision came to mind of something that happened to me five years ago. I avidly remember a massive Chilli bush that I had grown. It was ever so lush and green. It was the picture of health. The only problem was it didn’t want to flower. I couldn’t figure out why, but after digging around the internet, I finally realized what had happened. I had fed the plant nitrogen for too long. The Warranty shall be the sole and exclusive warranty granted by Aqua Gardening and shall be the sole and exclusive remedy available to you in addition to other rights and under a law in relation to the Products to which this warranty relates.

If you follow my advice of often and less is better reduce the normal amount of watering and maybe not feed the plant at all during these cloudy days, but as the weather turns add more nutrients feedings

A couple of my Thai Demon Chillies that I started from seed have already reached maturity. They have already started getting buds. Once these buds turn into flowers, with a bit of encouragement, many will turn into Chillies. To facilitate this,I will start fertilizing these Chilli plants with a water-soluble fertilizer that is high in potassium. Potassium improves flower formation and fruit set.Dried chillies, when done correctly can be kept for a couple of years. Once I have been through the process of drying our own chillies I will add a guide and link to it here. Essentially there are 3 different ways to dry chillies; in a purpose built food dehydrator, in an oven, or leaving them out to dry. Chilli Focus is a liquid fertilizer I use to fertilise my Chillies at various stages in their development. I first use it when my seedlings have developed their true leaves. At this point, I pot on the seedlings into two-inch pots. I use my own potting mixturefor potting on. The dosage I use for the seedlings at this stage in their development is 2.5 millilitres per litre of water. This is all the seedlings need, as they are still quite small. In addition to the nutrients Chilli Focus provides, the seedling also absorbs nutrients from the potting mixture. Adjust feeding schedule according to the season, with little to no feeding required during winter dormancy. Previously, when I might have started my plants later, this would not have been a problem. I would have only been potting the seedlings into one litre pots in say May. They were comfortable only getting Chilli Focus a 5l per litre for the six weeks leading up to hardening off, but that now will have changed. My Chilli seedling fertilisation now needs to be approached in another way Nitrogen. However , because of a bit of experimenting I did last year , I now switch to Chempak 4 ( the high potassium fertilizer) at the first sign of buds. The improved results in fruit set are very noticeable . It is definitely a step up from using Chill Focus alone.
