About this deal

During their investigation, a theory begins to surface about a team of assassins operating under the name of a sorority—Kappa Omega Delta. KOD—Killers On Demand. It sounds farfetched to the partners (and their captain), but they keep running into the idea. And soon, they might start to find some actual evidence pointing to it. It's been a long time since I've read a Red Alert (NYPD, #5). It was overall quite entertaining, and I felt I was among old friends.

The various shenanigans that follow put the detectives in a difficult situation. To add to the pressure, another potential victim is kidnapped and will undoubtedly be killed if the Hazmat Killer isn't apprehended very soon.In New York City a vigilante serial killer is murdering people who have apparently evaded justice. The killer dresses the victims in Hazmat suits and leavies them in public places, seemingly as a warning to other criminals. MARSHALL KARP co-created and co-authored the first six books in the #1 bestselling NYPD Red series with James Patterson. Starting with NYPD Red 7, Marshall will become the sole author of the series, which features Detectives Kylie MacDonald and Zach Jordan as members of an elite task force dedicated to solving crimes committed against — and sometimes by — New York City’s rich and famous. The characters are well-developed; the glimpses into the lifestyles of the uber-rich are intriguing and the obsession expressed toward a celebrity is a well-defined reality. The setting is effective for the telling of the tale; the unfolding narrative takes a fair number of twists and turns before arriving at a surprising revelation that changes everything. Wow, I’m stunned by how much I enjoyed this book! I went into this read with a ho-hum attitude because police procedurals are not my top reading genre and because it was book seven in a series. Author Marshall Karp has taken over writing The NYPD Red series which he was previously ghost writing with James Patterson, and he did a marvelous job of it. We are introduced to Zach Jordan who has been with the NYPD force for several years and now is going to partner with Kylie MacDonald, who also is his ex girlfriend so this makes for some very interesting chemistry.

I didn't mind the story but I'm not sure I like the characters. Neither of them seemed overly sympathetic and they had a real abrasive way of talking. I think (and I may be wrong) that it's just the New York accent but I'm sure that most New Yorkers don't always sound so harsh. I wanted more variety in the speech, some emotions now and again. It's no secret that I love James Patterson, especially his series, Alex Cross, Private and now I can firmly add this series to that list. Having read the first book in November of last year, I was a little apprehensive as to whether it would continue on in the same vein because I loved that one. This book, although falling slightly below the first book for me, was still very enjoyable and personally, I think it has shown the potential for this series in the future. The debut book of the NYPD Red series written by author Karp is entitled ‘NYPD Red’. It was released by the Little, Brown, and Company publishing in the year 2012. The central characters mentioned by author Karp in this book include Delia Kates, Kylie MacDonald, Gabriel Benoit, Zach Jordon, Dr. Cheryl Robinson, etc. Marshall Karp has done the setting of the plot in New York City, New York. At the start of the book’s story, it is depicted that New York City is filled with glamor as Hollywood on Hudson has begun. Each night, the city’s people get to see film stars arrive in limos at the premieres and walk on red carpets. Even the expensive restaurants get booked exclusively for the private parties of wealthy producers, prominent directors, dashing actors, sexy actresses, etc. Fans gather in the number of thousands outside all such restaurants to get glimpses of beautiful and famous faces. Because of the arrival of the long list of celebrities in the town, a special task force, NYPD Red, is asked to stay on high alert. Not even a single mistake is expected from them as it is their prime duty to take care that nothing happens to the celebrities or other people during the premiere. Shortly after, a well known producer collapses suddenly during breakfast and dies. A top detective of NYPD Red, Zach Jordon, is the first person to reach the scene. Immediately after the producer’s death, Zach is partnered with the beautiful Kylie MacDonald to find out the murderer. Kylie also happens to the former girlfriend of Zach. Soon, the two realize that the death of the producer is just the beginning. Crimes begin to take place in large numbers and in the most spectacular, horrifying, and brutal manner, and openly in public. The whole of New York turns into chaos and puts NYPD Red on the most important task of stopping the crimes and catching the killer. Zach & Kylie know that no one knows what the killer is up to. They also know they have to put an end to all the chaos and hunt down the psychopath as the whole world is watching.Always the extra and never the star, Gabe Benoit is writing, directing and starring in his own movie - and playing it all out in his head. He and girlfriend Lexi are using Hollywood week in New York city to cause chaos. Using his expertise at being a movie extra Gabe is pulling off a number of murders.

A Patterson book that, like the Phoenix, has risen from the ashes. Oner can only hope that this is not a one-off, as it has much with which to work and so much potential. Could Patterson have come up with a new twist to revitalise his fledging books (save for a few series)? It sure looks like it, with great character development, a decent plot, and plausible storyline. Patterson (and Karp) really outdid themselves and presented a decent opening book to a new series. That said, I should not speak too soon. Patterson's Midas Touch has sometimes soured after a great first novel. A few years ago, I really enjoyed reading James Patterson’s novels, especially the Women’s Murder Club series. Then after 10 or so books, they got a bit repetitive and I mostly stopped reading them. The first NYPD Red came out in 2012 and I loved the concept. A detective series based on the crimes that happened to New York’s rich and famous elite. Now that’s it the fifth novel, I’m getting a bit tired of the series, but it was a perfect pool side read!

NYPD Red 7: The Murder Sorority

Also, as the main narrator, Zach seems to be "behind" Kylie all the time; like he is more pragmatic than his partner. So I miss a bit agressive attitude from the MC. So, to answer to my previous question. Actually, not much really… Not much at all… Except for one surprise… This was structured like most of Patterson collaborations where there is a lot of fast-paced action where the leads spend most of their time running around following the clues and distractions left by the bad guys. This one had a lot of twists and turns, most of which you could see coming and a few well-placed ones that you don’t. It also includes some very coincidental, but well-delivered, character development for Zach that was a surprisingly beneficial element that strengthened the storylines. Kudos to Karp for that creative thinking.

Patterson, έστω και αν έχει κατηγορηθεί ότι οι ήρωες του είναι οι πλούσιοι και διάσημοι του κόσμου μας, δεν σταματούν να συναρπάζουν τους αναγνώστες - άλλωστε, κατέχει το ρεκόρ Γκίνες για τα περισσότερα βιβλία στο Νο1 της λίστας ευπώλητων των New York Times.I was in the mood for familiarity, wanting to choose a book from a series that I know I enjoy, so I got settled in with my favourite Patterson protagonists. There were once again two cases in this one, and while I sometimes find this concept distracting, Karp & Patterson usually pull it off well and this time was no different. The book opens right into the first of these cases, with Kylie already on the crime scene as an invited guest to the event, and the story is kept pacy throughout.
