Though there are a plethora of new video-centric modes on the ONE RS, the six-axis gyroscope FlowState Stabilization remains the most important. Like GoPro’s HyperSmooth, this in-camera algorithm creates a super-smooth ‘gimbal-like’ stabilization with no editing required. It works on 4K 60fps video captured with the 4K Boost Lens. Up to 50% faster WiFi transfers - makes transferring files wayyyy easier and vastly improves your editing time compared to the ONE R. It’s very much a yay if you don’t already have an action camera, 360 camera or want to experiment and play with something a little different from other action cams.

Unfortunately, creating a private stream for just a few invitees isn't possible on Facebook, as you can only restrict your post to either yourself, your friends, or the public. This meant I couldn't create a 360 livestream just for my family, which is one of the reasons I was so interested in investigating the ONE RS. The app also notes that you can only broadcast 30 minutes of live 360 video at a time. And I’ve not even covered the weird little features like 360 webcam mode, voice activation and other accessories.

Devices that do not meet the above requirements may still be able to use the app to control the camera, however, performance of some processor-intensive and AI-powered features may be sub-optimal. When the Insta360 One R arrived, you had to process your videos through the Insta360 app to get stabilization. This effectively meant your phone was doing the work. In-camera stabilization was added in an update, but this time it’s the norm from day one. There are various new innovations for Insta360 on the ONE R Twin Edition, such as Color Plus, HDR video and Night Shot, while long-standing features like the six-axis gyroscope FlowState stabilization are present again.

You can do quite a bit with the free Insta360 Camera control app on your Android or iOS smartphone to capture and send, or publish on social media. The smartphone app has helpful step-by-step guides telling you how to get all the fancy final videos, though you don’t need to get fancy to memorialize the best moments of a ride, hike, or baby’s first birthday. I am no techie and produced these clips with just a few button pushes on my iPhone. Overall the Insta360 X3 is easier to use with more action camera credentials, but the One RS is more versatile and can truly claim the title of two cameras in one. Video Comparison It’s an odd case of looser processing leading to charming results, something you can only really appreciate when seeing the footage in motion, because when analyzing frames down at pixel level, the GoPro almost always seems superior. This is particularly true of far-away objects like bushes, or that shimmering gravel we already mentioned. The Insta360 is more prone to rendering unrealistic looking patterns in these visual features than the steadfastly consistent GoPro –but the negative part you'll notice in motion is that shimmer.The One RS with the 4K Boost mod can be used as a high quality webcam, this option is not available on the X3 however it may be coming in a future update.
