About this deal

Ruth, a staunch atheist, has never felt drawn to Walsingham despite her long residence in Norfolk. This changes when her old university acquaintance, Hilary Smithson, requests a meeting there. To Ruth's astonishment, Hilary is now an ordained priest. For anyone who has followed this series, it is almost like being at home with the characters. You feel like you know them. You watch the kids grow up. The relationships ups and downs. Griffiths said that The Last Remains felt like the closing of a chapter for Ruth Galloway, and for herself as well. For this reason, her focus will be shifting to her other writing projects, but the possibility for Ruth to return in the future is always there. The Brighton Mysteries Books When attending the unveiling of a coffin holding the remains of a medieval bishop, Ruth Galloway is met with a chilling scene: the dead body of the museum's curator. Even worse, the museum's weatlthy owner is later discovered dead in his stables.

When Cassie Fitzgerald was at school in the late 90s, she and her friends killed a fellow student. Almost twenty years later, Cassie is a happily married mother who loves her job — as a police officer. She closely guards the secret she has all but erased from her memory. In this novel, Ruth helps the police investigate the cold case murder of a college co-ed. The book could work as a standalone but will be more satisfying to people familiar with the characters. The trail leads Ruth and Nelson to the Neolithic flint mines in Grime's Graves. The race is on, first to find Cathbad and then to exonerate him, but will Ruth and Nelson uncover the truth in time to save their friend?

Ruth Galloway Book 11 | The Stone Circle

Is Cassie right, or was Garfield murdered by one of his political cronies? It’s in Cassie’s interest to skew the investigation so that it looks like it has nothing to do with Manor Park and she seems to be succeeding. I was glad Judy and Cathbad actually got married at the end of the book. They have two children. Maybe I’m old-fashioned but marriage seems like a natural event for a couple who actually share interests and have a good relationship. That one also started by one of the parties cheating on a spouse, but we forget that aspect sooner bc Judy actually shows integrity and ends her marriage, whereas Nelson never does bc the relationship and commonalities between he and his wife Michelle are both longer and stronger than Judy’s.

The Last Remains ( Mariner Books) will rightfully jump to the top of many mystery lovers’ TBRN (to be read now!!) piles. It is purportedly the 16th and final book in Elly Griffith’s exciting and addictive series about Ruth Galloway, tenured college professor, forensic archeologist and crime solver who routinely aids the Norfolk police in active murder investigations and cold cases. Archaeological digs have yielded centuries old ancient graves and artifacts — and served as dumping grounds for more recent corpses. Her relationship with Kate’s father, the gruff but tender-hearted DCI Nelson, remains complicated, but they were nearly inseparable during the Covid pandemic. There is hope for a future together as his two daughters are nearly fully fledged and at long last he is separated from his wife, the ever glamorous Michelle. He is however, actively engaged in his young son George’s upbringing and his family is fully aware of Ruth and Kate. Cold Case Hits Close to Home While the location the character lives in is quite vague, she has always imagined her cottage to be near Titchwell or Holme. And the university is just outside King’s Lynn. When builders renovating a cafe in King's Lynn unearth a human skeleton, they call for DCI Harry Nelson and Dr Ruth Galloway, Head of Archaeology at the University of North Norfolk. Ruth is preoccupied with the threatened closure of her department and by her ever-complicated relationship with Nelson. The unfolding mystery draws in DCI Nelson, and the stakes rise sharply as it becomes evident that someone is willing to resort to murder to keep the secrets of the bones under wraps. Finally, the very first books Elly Griffiths ever published were under her real name of Domenica de Rosa. These books all take place in Italy and are about family and identity. While these books are very different from her detective books, if you enjoy her writing it may be worth seeking out a copy of her first novels. It’s been an idea that’s been in all our heads for a long time and I’ve been doing the research as I go - I’ve got a whole file of stories about Norfolk that haven’t made it into the books. And having a bit of a pause with Ruth has given me time to put it together.

We used to spend quite a lot of time with my aunt, having holidays in Norfolk on her boat,” she says.Unfortunately, the latest book in the series, The Last Remains, is the last book in the series. This news prompted heartbroken outcry from fans. However, Griffiths has left a door, or at least a window, open with the possibility of one day returning to this beloved world. Andy’s an archaeologist and he mentioned that prehistoric people thought that marshland was a sacred place because it’s neither land or sea, but kind of something in between. They thought it was a link to the afterlife, and that’s why you get bodies buried there, the so-called bog bodies.
