About this deal

The investigations reveal that he had scheduled to disclose a number of secrets for all the four students that were with him in detention. These facts make the four of those that walked out suspects to the murder but pointing out who was responsible becomes the hustle. However, there is a possibility in which the killer could have come from outside. It seems that the motive of the murder could be connected to secrets that Simon was about to release the next day. The students who were together with the slain victim were considered high profile, and each seemed to have heard secrets that would ruin their reputation. Every time I walk into the living room my wife is watching Pretty Little Liars or Revenge or Riverdale or Veronica Mars or . . . well, you get the idea. Sometimes I watch a bit with her. As I started this book I immediately thought “this book will be perfect for her – it’s the same type of thing”!

Now Nate is trying to maintain a long-distance relationship with Bronwyn, who is struggling to balance her new life at Yale with her memories of Bayview. All 4 end up in detention with Simon Kelleher, the guy who runs a gossip app that ruins reputations with its secrets. All four of them have a secret to hide and would do anything to keep it hidden. But at what cost? Because by the end of detention Simon is dead, but who did it?

Retailers:

The Breakfast Club meets Pretty Little Liars” was somehow a fair description for the general, overall idea of this book in the beginning but then (thank god) it wasn’t entirely like that. Which I appreciate because, you know, I like sparks of differences here and there. This is definitely the type of book that the more you think of, the more resentment you will have towards it. The more problems that you will think of and the more you will question what you just read. I enjoyed it when I was reading, simply because of how fast I sped through it, but, was it really, truly, actually good? Upon further reflection prior to this review, ok going to have to say no. One of Us is Lying gives an account of five students who walked into detention, but only four manage to leave alive. The mysterious killing leaves a lot of questions unanswered meaning that someone among the group was responsible for the murder. What Didn't Work: Eh....I'm not sure that this book was really needed for the series as a whole. Granted, as I stated before, I was happy to see a more firm conclusion to Owen's narrative, but part of me feels like there were too many characters. McManus makes the ultimate decision to keep the perspectives limited to Nate, Phoebe, and Addy with a few past narratives narrated by Jake and Simon. However, most of the characters from the first and second book are in some shape or form involved with the mystery. It felt convoluted and it takes so long for anything to really happen. While I'm a fan of recaps, I think McManus took too much time trying to catch readers up since there was such a huge publication gap between this book and the second book. Because I reread the first and second book this year, I was well aware of everything that led up to the events of this book which led to the first portion of this book being a bore. Though it wasn't noticeable before because of their roles in different books, the authorial tone for Phoebe and Addy was very similar. There were a few times that I had to remind myself of the perspective that I was engaging with because it became so easy to confuse the two characters. There was also this sudden exploration of Addy's sexuality that didn't always feel genuine. It reminded of how McManus used Cooper's sexuality to drive the narrative in the first book. With less focus on the recap and more on the secrets that drove Jake and Simon to make the decisions they made in the past, I think this could have been a more successful story. One year ago, an anonymous individual held the school spellbound as they played the ultimate game of Truth or Dare. One by one, secrets were again exposed, leading up to one massive near miss of a disaster.

On the other hand – not a bright side – the answer to the tormenting question “Who is the killer?” is quite obvious so the mystery itself is not that strongly wrapped in unknown and delusion, which on my list is a weak point, but the good news is that the story is quite enjoyable so it kind of balances things out. Well, I can 99% gaurentee your search has come to the end because let me present to you this bookwhich lives up to the damn hype and everything you can possibly want in a thriller.Human unpredictability,” she says with a shrug. “People are full of surprises, even when you think you know them.”

So I add it to my GR queue and avoid and avoid and avoid ! She insisted I add it during the christmas holidays to my tablet...in fact she added it from the library as I would not read her hard copy and she watched me read and grimace and roll my eyes and she would pinch me hard. "Jaidee you love it don't lie" she'd squeal. I would look at her and shake my head in dismay. First, depression is villanized because Simon is portrayed as a terrorist. His main motivation was wanting the infamy of a school shooter. He wanted to cause the same amount of damage, but in a way he deemed better. Problem: Depression does not equal being a terrorist! Mental illness being portrayed as wrong and evil is such a tired depiction. Addy, Nate, Cooper and Bronwyn are incredible characters, imo. After being put under suspicion, the four of these learn so much about themselves and make decisions that is best for themselves and for everyone. It's heartbreaking and sad to learn about what they hide, but spoilers so read it and find out yourself, thanks. :)

Publication Order of One of Us Books

This was a great read. And let's put it this way: only for a novel as skillfully written as One of Us Is Lying would make me willing to relive memories of some of the angst, emotions, drama, and insecurities of high school. (And since you know so many books have me singing a particular song, for no reason whatsoever, this book had me singing "One of Us" by ABBA. But this was an easy one: the song actually has the lyric "One of us is lying.") The murder mystery secrets, be they big or small, follows a path that makes the lead suspects closer than they thought individual secrets would drive them. This murder brings a lot to attention concerning the lives of these students. As they try solving the case and clear their names, they learn the value of making those decisions that not only favor themselves but those around.

What other bits and pieces were total home runs? Well, I can’t forget to mention the utterly top-notch twist that I absolutely did not see coming. Then there was the *chef’s kiss* redemption arc for villainess Vanessa and the warm and cuddly found family trope that is always a slam dunk for me. So whole this full-circle narrative did leave some pieces uncharacteristically up in the air, the finale did provide the perfect closing scene to be sure.Even though I predicted the whodunit less than halfway through, I still ended up genuinely enjoying the story. Karen presents another fascinating thriller Two Can Keep a Secret. Down in echo ridge, Ellery’s aunt went missing some years ago at the age of seventeen years. She goes to visit her grandmother who she barely knows, and that’s when she experiences the tales told about echo ridge. Its so bloody binge-able you guys, like I finished it in a day and I wasn’t even intending to binge it
