Here, she gives us the tale of two very different human beings who are brought together by their interest in moths. One is a recent college graduate, a young ecologist who has been hired by a couple to house sit and care for their dogs while they are in Australia for the birth of their granddaughter. The other is a middle-aged former teacher who is a bit of an outcast, someone who never can quite manage to fit in. They are both passionate about moths and thereby hangs a tale. To date, The Glass Room, where one of Vera’s neighbours vanishes mysteriously, is only one of two novels that have not yet been adapted for the TV series. Harbour Street There were snatched pictures too of a mannequin presumably being used to mark the filming position for a body on the beach, apparently washed up not far from Tynemouth Priory.

For the National Year of Reading, Ann was made reader-in-residence for three library authorities. It came as a revelation that it was possible to get paid for talking to readers about books! She went on to set up reading groups in prisons as part of the Inside Books project, became Cheltenham Literature Festival's first reader-in-residence and still enjoys working with libraries. Filming almost went unnoticed when it moved on to Gosforth, where Vera's 4x4 was spotted by The Chronicle in Moor Crescent outside a house being used in a new storyline; while work under way around the busy Clayton Street in Newcastle was a bit more obvious to passers-by. For those fans who reach the end of the series and are still itching for more, Ann Cleves has signed on the dotted line to produce two further Vera books, taking the series to at least 12. And in the meantime, there’s always her Shetland series and standalone crime novels, too.Vera must unravel a tangled web of deceit between two wildly different families when the body of a teenage boy is discovered floating near a Northumberland salmon farm. Vera investigates the case of a murdered social worker found in a spa. Find this one in series two, episode two. The Glass Room

Just days after filming in Tynemouth, Blethyn and co-star Doughty had moved on to shoot scenes near some flats in Gateshead then next in South Shields. The bus featured in this episode of Vera on a service to Bebington is The Eden's Leyland Leopard, which was new in 1976. Making its appearance as a vehicle still in service in this episode somewhat strange. The bus itself has been painstakingly restored to its former glory. Vera is called upon when the charred remains of a body are discovered in an abattoir incinerator. The body is found to be that of DC Harry Fenton, of the Northumberland & City Fraud Unit, who had been on his final day of the job before retirement. After one of Fenton's colleagues, Jac Williams, gives Vera a useful tip-off, Vera looks into one of Harry's fraud cases. Vera's Brenda Blethyn confirms details of 'special' episode after filming before Christmas". ChronicleLive. 11 January 2023 . Retrieved 31 March 2023. It is a wonderful cozy mystery series. The lead Brenda Blethyn is brilliant! Stay with me....I have a lot to say.

The star was seen filming for that in the summer 2018 at the Turknaz restaurant in Whitley Bay in July then the focus of the action switched to the city centre with the cameras set up outside St Nicholas Cathedral, Amen Corner and the top of The Side. When a young woman, Lizzie Faulkner, is shot late at night outside the holiday chalet where she and two friends are staying for the weekend, Vera and Joe suspect that her murder is linked to poachers operating in nearby fields. They identify a suspect, Robert Doran, but despite being in the vicinity at the time, he denies being responsible for Lizzie's murder. Vera begins to suspect the woman's death may have been a case of mistaken identity, and that the intended victim may have been one of the chalet designers, Corrine Franks, who was meant to have been staying there at the time. A link to a tragic car accident a few months earlier involving Corrine, which led to an innocent woman losing her life, appears to confirm their theory. When Corrine is later killed in a hit-and-run, the team finally get the breakthrough they have been looking for.

Weekly Top 10 Programmes: ITV HD w/e 29 April 2012". Broadcasters' Audience Research Board . Retrieved 8 May 2012. This is my first Ann Cleeves mystery, but fans will know the Vera Stanhope character well and may have watched Vera, the British television series, starring Brenda Blethyn. Cleeves has created a unique personality—Vera is middle-aged, overweight, controlling, a little obsessed, with a few regrets and buried insecurities. But she’s a genius detective who knows how to dig. She is often bossy with Joe and Holly, who have their own talents and a little personal baggage. Both Joe and Holly silently crave Vera’s respect and confidence, and hope for one of Vera’s rare nuggets of praise. I enjoyed this work dynamic and think it’s one of the book’s strongest elements. When DI Vera Stanhope arrives on the scene, she finds the body of a second man. What the two victims seem to have in common is a fascination with studying moths—and with catching these beautiful, intriguing creatures. Weekly Top 10 Programmes: ITV HD w/e 8 May 2011". The Moth Catcher is a splendid, solidly plotted modern take on a golden-age "closed circle" mystery, and Vera, as always, is a delight."
