If you watch the trailer for the perfume the ad creates a vision of a deep rainforest that this smell truly mirrors in its entirety. The volume of vanilla soon escalates to the max, and pushes the interesting tropical greenery aside. Combined to the potent fruity sweetness, Aura actually smells very much like typical commercial fruity tonka-vanilla gourmand fragrances on today's market. There's also an artificial, peppery smoky note mixed within, screechy like nails on the chalkboard. Meanwhile, the orange blossom seems to only bring its grape-y sweetness to the table, further enhancing the fruity vanilla gourmand impression. I can hardly notice any floral aspect.

I got a small sample yesterday cause I've been wanting to expand on my Mugler collection a little bit, since I absolutely adore Alien but couldn't quite get behind Angel and was curious to try another main Mugler creation.Sigh, why can't fragrances I love perform this outstanding? Come to think of it, that reminds me of some people as well, lol.

Aura Eau de Parfum Sensuelle is a much softer and a less harsh take on the original. It smells almost fresh and 'fizzy' to my nose, like the scent of a Lifesavers hard candy. You could class it as a gourmand-floral, as it has an 'edible' kind of an aroma. Second time trying it on.. First sniff is cute, sweet, endearing (alas still too intense I can't). Then it dried down to faint vanilla on my skin that was so boring and dull. I don't know what happened, where is my cloud of concentrated flower romance? I thought that was the end of that perfume. I went on about my day anyway. Then...a few more hours go by and.. Poof! A purply pink cloud with sparkles appeared, then faded away. That's THE smell that I smelled the first time! What. A. Tease! This intoxicatingly sweet and addictive smell is playing hide and seek with me. Errrr... no. (Allow me to state that I mean *no* offense whatsoever if you love this and are able to wear it... what follows is a description of my experience and mine alone. Obviously, this juice is still on the market because it *does* sell, and there are a significant number of people out there who smell amazing while wearing it. Unfortunately for me... I'm not one of them. Oh, boy, am I *ever* not one of them.) Aura Sensuelle is very close to Aura EDP, closer than the notes list suggests. Vanilla and rhubarb are toned down by a lot, but they're still there as a part of the unmistakable Aura DNA which I'd summarize as 'eating custard in the jungle'. Very leafy and green, but also sweet and creamy and kind of reminiscent of woodruff flavored goodies. In Sensuelle, floral notes were added to make the scent softer and less punchy. I would not have guessed gardenia, but when you know it, it makes sense as a note. Like some plush, velvety white petals floating above all the green leaves. The cinnamon leaf note is also very subtle, I only detect it in because I know it's there. It's a nice little twist, but I wish these two notes were stronger to give the perfume more of a unique, distinct personality. If I could skip the top notes and go straight to the base I would as I don't mind faint green notes.

The scent is great. If you have smelled the original and found it a bit too strong, this might be for you. This has a lot of the Aura DNA, but it has a lighter freshnes, that opens up a bit sharp, without being citrusy. It seems better for the warmer weather, where the original is great for colder days and rain. By the time I walked from the store to my car... I was already beginning to realize the consequences of my little blind-spray experiment. Perhaps I should have drawn some conclusions about the juice from the color of the bottle. (I try not to judge a book by its cover, but maybe I should have suspected that the color green might signify something in this case.) What I experienced was... mentholated, to say the least. It does share the same Aura DNA, you get hints of greenness and that minty kind of vibe, but it's really really subtle.

The wood mixes with the green notes but that sharp astringent note is still present. Instant headache. If you like Aura EDP, but find it a bit too much, too loud or too strange, Aura Sensuelle is a pretty safe bet and I would strongly recommend to try or get it now while it's still available for a good price. If you already have the original and you can pull it off, you don't really need this flanker. At least this is how I feel. I really really love the Aura EDP, but it's a bit too strong for warmer weather I think. After testing the EDT and really liking it too I figured maybe the Sensuelle would be a nice fit for use during warm weather since the EDT and EDP are pretty similar and I wasn't sure if getting both would be wise. The “wolfwood,” described by Mugler as an “animalic” vegetal substitute for wood, is animalic, peaty and opaque. This is no woody base. Instead, the base is a prominent vanilla. It isn’t quite gourmand, but a little powdery. It reminds me of the vanilla in the first Alien Goddess release, but less boring. An hour or two later, the vanilla, wood and coumarin notes begin to shine, which I much prefer. Making it much more wearable, warmer and enjoyable. I like to spray on skin and clothes to see how it performs. The sharpness and pine lives a lot longer on clothes.

i was seriously expecting to hate this, even as a mugler stan. this one seems extra controversial. on paper, aura truly doesn't look like something i would normally go for (not much of a green fragrance enjoyer) but omfg. OMFG was i wrong There was a sweet smell from all the elements sun, water, flowers merging and Integrating that this perfume truly captures. It lasts forever which is a plus. Umm- the summer heat is def not ideal for this. So I will be trying it again if we ever have a another fall/winter that gets chilly. Apocalyptic fire tornadoes make me doubtful. What to do with all our cool weather scents?! 🙁
