About this deal

It connects to both machines via the supplied cable. And both machines recognise the iRig because it appears in the Microphone options.

This is meant to be an easy style plug-n-play connection, sorry to hear of these continued snags along the way! Which 'lapel microphone' are you using exactly? This may be a factor. This dual-input interface comes with a secondary preamp voicing to offer brighter tones and a sound closer to the brand’s more expensive ISA preamps. While the iPad Pro and Scarlett 2i2 pair-up is wonderful – considering it can be powered through USB-C – we wouldn’t necessarily recommend it for long sessions. The upper left LED is to indicate whether 48 volt phantom power is active or not. The upper right LED indicates whether MIDI is active (which I did not test).

We recommend uninstalling the iRig Pro DUO ASIO drivers if you want to use the general iRig ASIO drivers. Both ASIO drivers will work with iRig Pro DUO and iRig Pro DUO I/O; but using the general iRig ASIO will allow it to work with other iRig models.

Listen Up

As I have covered in many past articles, we record at the conservative -12 dB for a raw recording, to leave headroom for unexpected loud sounds like laughter or screams. In my test recordings which you’ll hear ahead, I set the input potentiometer to 90% to reach -12 dB with my normal voice level close to the mic. Fortunately, the preamps sound quite clean even at 90%. There are only two mixing adjustments you need to worry about with the Duo, while everything else related to volume i/o can be handled either by the guitar or by the software itself. But then nothing else happens. I can't work out how to make any audio from my lapel microphone register in the iPad. As I have covered in prior articles, to set your audio sampling on Android or iOS, simply select it in any of the recording apps that offer such an audio sampling selection (i.e. Auphonic, FiLMiC Pro, FV-5 Cinema) or use an app that uses 48 kHz exclusively, like the RØDE Reporter app. (Stay away from the native camera app or GarageBand, which only support 44.1 kHz, which is kryptonite for video production.) On the MacBook, it powers up and I am able to select it as my Input Source. Can also hear some static hiss coming out of the laptop speakers.

The two XLR inputs are also combo, so they accept unbalanced instrument-level sources via TS 1/4”. Can I connect an unbalanced electret condenser microphone too? You might have to tinker with volume for awhile to get everything right, but it's fairly intuitive and easy to use (more on this later).
