For Wolfe, consistency and lots of parent-child connection are key aspects “as you are getting them ready for the big separation”. She stresses that “the more work the child does for themselves in achieving their sleep, the more chance they have of getting through the night-time sleep phases without parental input”. After about 2 weeks we started to see improvements in terms of how long she starting sleeping at night, for a while she would have nights where she would sleep 7pm to around 10 or 11pm when I’d feed her, then sleep again until 2am when I’d feed her again and then after that she could be a little unsettled until 7am but sometimes not so.

From birth you can begin to gently shape your child’s sleep in the first 6 months and implement my effective and caring, percentage of wakefulness approach and from 6 months onwards up to age 6 you can learn all about my stay and support method and sleep guidance that promotes sleeping through the night and napping well by day, when your child is developmentally able to do so. Make sure you’ve had some sleep - we know it can be hard to keep your energy levels up as a mum, especially in the middle of the night, but try where you can to make sure you’re well rested before starting this method of sleep training - especially in the first few weeks. Hello and welcome to Sleep Matters with Lucy Wolfe, I am so pleased that you have found me; I can help to transform your disrupted sleep life wherever you are located in Ireland and all around the world. This sleep method can be a rather tiring one for parents and it can become frustrating. It can take a long time for your baby to settle at first, and even longer for them to learn to comfort themselves and understand when it’s time to sleep.I'm combined feeding now so my partner can help a little but like you say it does make it difficult to know what he's getting. He can go 4 hours in the day so maybe 4 hours would be a good time to aim for in the night... say he goes to bed at 7 and we feed if he wakes around 1 and 5ish... Know the times that your baby naps and try to plan your outings to accommodate these, she suggests. “Baby can nap lying flat in the buggy in a busy coffee shop or out for a walk. If your baby only naps in a quiet dark room then he/she will have difficultly ‘napping out’ or in a bright noisy creche as they grow older.”

From 6 months of age onwards-working directly with me one a one-to-one basis will give you the confidence to make the necessary changes. My support and guidance will help you implement the plan I will devise for you and motivate you to succeed. The plan is developed based specifically on your child’s, age, stage and your personal parenting preferences. I work remotely via zoom with families worldwide. I will see you once your baby is 6 months plus of age- before this timeframe I encourage that you would use my sleep chat, online courses or books as a resource in the first few months, as very often the challenges that you report are representative of typical infant sleep. I work on a professional, individual basis so that I can safely and appropriately provide support for your specific family unit. Lucy's programme is gentle, she does not advocate cry intensive methods and encourages a stay-and-support approach. Following our chat, she sent me a schedule tailored to my son's age and we set to work a couple of days after our meeting. We probably had a couple of months of going in and out to him every few mins at bedtime (usually for max 15 mins?) and then he was great after that at going down and has been ever since. Become as informed as you can be - then begin to lay a solid foundation - discover your child’s language for sleep - and attempt naps by day before they become overtired.

Hopefully she’ll fall asleep fast, but if she cries a lot, take her out of the crib for a set amount of time (say, half an hour) and then try again.I recognize that if you are reading this you may be over-tired and not have had uninterrupted sleep for a long time. To begin my sleep process, you do not have to complete a lengthy sleep diary. Completion of a simple client history review will enable me to identify core contributory emotional and developmental factors providing scope to devise a suitable, bespoke sleep plan for your family that encourages better sleep to emerge. It is important to me that parents receive high quality information, guidance and support and I continue to invest in training, education and research to ensure that when you select me to accompany you on your journey, that you are are assured that it is the right decision. As Galway-based Quinn explains: “Most sleep consultants will only work proactively on sleep after the age of six months, so that they can be sure that the baby has developed mature sleep cycles and the capability to sleep for longer periods.”
