About this deal

A rich and heartfelt tribute to this most iconic British machine. Focusing on the men (and women) who flew the Spitfire, John Nichol has brought a fresh and powerful perspective to the story. By recording their bravery, humility, camaraderie, tragedy and sheer joy in flying their beloved Spits he has done them, and us, a valuable service.’ Rowland White, author of Vulcan 607 I shouldn’t be drawn to her. She’s not my type. Until we’re forced to work together in class and realize we might have more things in common than we originally thought. Soon enough I find myself completely obsessed. I will do anything for this girl to make her fall in love with me. In the 1990s as second Atticus opened in Lancaster by Tom and the Liverpool shop continued to be run by Jill McArdle for several years more until the lease expired and it finally closed. The viral kiss and the video of Tate singing at the party do wonders for both of their burgeoning careers. So after some careful negotiation, the two of them agree to start a fake relationship. But before long they discover their feelings might not be fake after all …

Wren Beaumont is quite possibly the last virgin in her senior class at Lancaster Prep. Making the promised to her father in a ceremony a few years ago and she has kept it ever since. Working hard to keep her grades she is not happy when she is forced to work with Crew. Even though he is gorgeous he is grumpy and crude towards her, he manages to open her eyes to the life she leads, the friends she thought she had (but were simply one-sided) and the opinions that others have of her. This is not a Haynes manual for the Lancaster, thankfully. That would be dreadfully dull to me. This is about the human stories around that particular beast of an aircraft. The people that made the bombers in the factory, the crew, the actual bombing raids (the first one to bomb a factory in Augsburg is horrendous), the senior management in Bomber Command and more. Nichol, as an ex-RAF man perhaps, is staunch in defence of his bombers, giving voice to their certainty that they had done a good and necessary thing, that they had fought the war the best way they could, any many of their fellow aircrew perished in the attempt. West doesn’t make my time here easy. He’s arrogant. Crude. Insufferable. He torments me in the worst way, to the point that I can’t stand him. Yet he’s the only boy I’ve ever let touch me… Spending time with Crew, Wren finds that he pushes her boundaries, questioning her life and finding that they have their differences but also their similarities too. Crew finds himself feeling protective and possessive of Wren especially when a teacher with a certain reputation starts to show an interest. They start to spend time working on other subjects and Crew encourages her to explore the feelings between them without pushing her to do more than she is ready for. But as others begin to learn of their ‘friendship’ they are pulled apart but Crew is not giving up without a fight and proves just how much she means to him.You see, West and I? We share a secret. On a hot summer night in Paris, we hooked up. And I never do that. Ever. I revealed parts of myself to him I’ve never shown anyone else. He’s seen me at my most vulnerable. I told him my secrets. And he told me his. In Paris, he was sexy. Protective. Even dare I say…sweet. A dark and twisted bully romance full of secrets and lies… Whit Lancaster burst into my life like a storm. Dark and thunderous, furious and fierce. Cold, heartless and devastatingly beautiful, like the statues in our prep school gardens. The school with his family name on the sign. He can do no wrong here. This is his domain. Now he’s the villain in my story, yet I can’t help but chase after that feeling only West can give me. Despite our hatred for each other, we somehow burn brighter when we’re together. So what happens when you helplessly fall for the one person you know is bad for you?

After leaving Lancaster Prep, Spencer Donato has had to step up into his family business. getting his hands dirty for a while he is pleased to have been moved into a behind-the-scenes role. Attending his best friend’s wedding brings him face-to-face with Sylvie again after not seeing her since she finally gave up her virginity to him before promptly marrying an older man. Their relationship over the years had been up and down, Sylvie drawing him in before pushing him away time and time again. A superb and compelling book. Brilliantly written with some incredible and astonishing stories; it is gripping, moving, emotional and sometimes humorous – just perfect.’ Squadron Leader (Ret) Clive Rowley, former Officer Commanding RAF Battle Of Britain Memorial FlightA few years later and her world has been thrown several curveballs. From the unwanted attention from her stepbrother who repeatedly raped her, her mom’s affair made public knowledge and a house fire that killed her stepfather and stepbrother. Now she is about to transfer to the elite Lancaster Prep for her senior year but any ideas of a new start are shattered when she discovers that Whit Lancaster is in her year and set to make her life hell. Turning into a high school bully that isolates her from everyone but somehow still makes her want him. This is my first book by Nicol although I have had my eye on ‘Spitfire’ for a long time waiting for the price to drop before I buy it, but Lancaster came first. Initially Nicol focuses on a surviving rear gunner called Ron Needle who was from Birmingham, England. Ron was born on 17-Mar-1925 so by the time the Second World war came around he was in his teens. He would be one of those very young Lancaster crew members. There was an episode of Star Trek I once watched about a war on a planet that had been "sanitised" by the leadership of the opposing sides. No bombs were let off, no buildings destroyed, hits were recorded electronically like a game of battleships, but the casualties were real - those identified as being hit presenting themselves for disposal in termination booths. The story point was that this sanitised but murderous game of war had desensitised the participants and allowed the war to go on for generations without resolution. The reality of war is what creates the impetus to secure and preserve a peace. Coming home late one evening after a few drinks Grant finds a woman in his bed. Whilst he doesn’t know who she is, he isn’t surprised that there is one there knowing that it is probably a surprise from his brother – a somewhat silly tradition between them. Sliding into bed he rouses the woman and finds her responsive to him, although there is something familiar about her.

My first experience of Lancaster's was in making Airfix kits of them, even in polystyrene form, the elegance of the design the majestic sense of power is so clear. To fly in these machines is clearly an unforgettable experience.Tis the season and things are a little stressful for our fave couple. There’s a lot going on in their lives, and Wren is feeling out of sorts. Young heiress Scarlett Lancaster is delighted when her father tells her he hired a famous pop star and former boy band member to play at her eighteenth birthday. But delight becomes utter disappointment when it turns out he wasn’t talking about Harry Styles. No, Scarlett’s dad hired Tate Ramsey, former lead singer of the band Five Car Pileup, who hasn’t been popular for years. A festive/birthday return to see what Crew and Wren’s life looks like in the few years since they finished school and travelling. Married with a baby, willow, we join them in the days leading up to Christmas and of course Wren’s birthday which falls on Christmas Day. They are navigating life as new parents and Crew working for his older brother’s real estate company.
