About this deal

The midsole made from both FuelCell and Fresh Foam X provides a comfortable stable ride. The dual-density medial post provided stability without being noticeable. The midsole absorbed impact nicely along with giving a small energy return. The FuelCell provides a solid foundation while the Fresh Foam X added a needed bounce. Refined materials in the upper create a more secure fit than the previous model, adding another layer of stability. The 860v12 also sports an updated heel collar that’s softer than the Ultra Heel featured in the 860v11. Overall, the roomy toe box and padded heel collar make the latest model more accommodating for different foot shapes. The New Balance 860v12 runs a little tighter in the mid-foot than most other running shoes we've tried. It wasn't an issue at all after one or two runs, but if you have large/wide feet you might want to try these on before committing to them. Even if you have tried a previous version of the 860, we think these were a little more snug in the midfoot than either the v10 or v11.

New Balance Fresh Foam 860 v12 review - RunRepeat New Balance Fresh Foam 860 v12 review - RunRepeat

Overall: B/B+ ( A durable and consistent stability shoe for those that like a firm posted ride without major bells or whistles) The two-part midsole underfoot features soft FreshFoamX cushioning for a responsive ride. What makes up the two-part midsole is the combination of Fresh Foam X and FuelCell midsole, which amps up the energy return. This blend combines softness and performance, which is great for high-mileage efforts and easy runs. Something that has remained the same from its predecessors is the stiff medial posting inside the shoe. You will be able to count on this shoe to give the maximum support on each step. The outsole This newest version offers the same cushioned stability runners expect from the New Balance 860 with a plush, updated upper and a slightly softer midsole. This is the perfect shoe for runners seeking a stable, supportive ride.

The New Balance 860v12 is the twelfth version of the 860 model. In addition to focusing on cushioning and stability, New Balance really focuses on the type of ride in this trainer. The 860 model is New Balance's primary stability model, as such, it has all the latest technology and development available. The New Balance 860v13 offers a firm yet breathable upper that wraps comfortably around your foot, holding you firmly in place. With multiple densities of foam (I counted 3), and corrections to roll your stride correctly, it would be difficult to find a super-soft shoe. It’s also definitely softer than more minimal shoes out there. Fleet Feet reviewers tested the New Balance 860 to get a feel for how it fits and performs. Here’s everything you need to know. In the heel you will find a molded heel counter. Basically they took the ultra heel from last year’s version and added some cushion to it, the ideal amount of cushioning needed. This is similar to what was done to the Vongo 5 last year and is a strength of the upper. It provided a tailored fit holding the heel in place. With the heel in place the stability of the trainer is increased.

The New Balance 860v12 is a firm, responsive running shoe that falls into the "moderate stability" category. The trademark of the 800 series from New Balance is the cushioning, which makes this shoe ideal for runners with flat feet.

If you’re unsure whether you have flexible arches, be sure to head into your local Fleet Feet for an expert one-on-one outfitting. Fleet Feet outfitters use 3D fit id® foot scanning technology to gather information about your feet and the support they need by taking precise measurements of your foot length, width and arch height. That much is all good. But on the run, the new-school foams clashed with old-school stability tech, a dense medial post. It does the job to slow down pronation forces, but the extra weight slows the shoe’s ride, too. If you enjoyed previous versions of the New Balance 860, you’ll likely appreciate this model, too. The biggest difference between the New Balance 860v13 and the v12 is the updated Fresh Foam X midsole, providing a softer and peppier ride. With running shoes in the 2020s, you’ll often have speed lacing thrown in. Not with the 860 v12 though, keeping their lacing system from the last iteration the lacing is simple but secure. Although the 860v12 is similar to the v11, one of the areas that New Balance did make some changes was to the upper of the shoe. Here the mesh upper was reengineered for extra breathability and comfort.

New Balance Fresh Foam X 860 v12 Review - Running Shoes Guru

The New Balance 860 v12 is a classic stability shoe that gives runners the support and comfort to meet their daily needs without all the extra frills. The combination of FreshFoamX and FuelCell in the midsole is not the most exciting in terms of responsiveness, but it delivers a smooth ride with durability that runners can trust for miles. The 860 is a great shoe to grab for easy runs when I want to keep my legs fresh for the harder efforts later in the week, and it is truly a shoe that I can trust to get the job done. I wish there was more Fresh Foam X because around mile 8 the feeling of the midsole became firmer. This was especially true in the heel portion of the shoe and caused a slight discomfort.

Fleet Feet reviewers put the shoe to the test on long runs, recovery runs and walks. Here’s everything you need to know about the newest version of the New Balance 860, available September 1. The New Balance Fresh Foam 860v12 offers the same reliable stability runners have come to love with a refreshed upper and a slightly softer midsole. Fresh colorways and refined materials give the shoe a sleek, modern look. Force is definitely the correct term because you can really feel the 860 v12 get to work if you’re form isn’t right.
