There is a design flaw due to which you can’t press the Bumper and Trigger at the same time, or they will grind against each other. Putting aside cable issues I often preferred the Razer Wolverine Ultimate to the Xbox Elite if only for some of the minor improvements like a lighter feel and those extra buttons. Whether the Wolverine Ultimate is worth it for you comes down to your wallet, needs, and expectations, but overall Razer has created a fine – and in some ways better – alternative to Microsoft's high-end Xbox controller and that's not bad at all. The Bumpers are fine. The Triggers feel better than the standard Xbox controller, and the grip is good because of the matte paint. The controller has amazing trigger stops with 3 levels of length. Featuring wonderfully responsive controls, a wealth of mappable custom keys and paddles, and a rugged design that will survive the occasional rage throw, the Wolverine Ultimate is a perfect buy for any competitive PC or Xbox One gamer.

Since 1982, PCMag has tested and rated thousands of products to help you make better buying decisions. Read our editorial mission & see how we test. Triggers do not look as high quality as the Elite Series 2 ones, but they still feel better for longer game sessions because of the lower tension. Weighing in at 260 grams (0.57lbs) the Wolverine is significantly lighter than the Xbox Elite controller with batteries (348 grams or 0.77lbs). While heavier weight is often associated with a more premium feel, I'd argue that a lighter controller after a few hours is easier to use. The Wolverine Ultimate is Razer’s stab at creating a pro-level Xbox One-style controller for eSports and hardcore competitive gamers. The controller has an integrated battery, which is a nice addition, but I am afraid that it will start lasting fewer hours over time as it can’t be changed.Razer provides two swappable D-pads, however, they are both average. The Tournament Edition has a way better one. The Razer Wolverine V2 Pro is a controller focused on competitive play. Vibration (rumble) is not a feature that is typically utilized in competitive settings as it can negatively affect precision when playing games that require more accurate directionalinput.

These can come in handy, particularly in first-person shooters like Halo 5: Guardians where you may need to access commands more swiftly or execute a rapid-fire without the need to suppress your right trigger. Razer™ HyperSpeed uses our low latency, 2.4GHz technology found in wireless Razer gaming peripherals. It provides lag-free wireless performance whengaming. The controller is only wired, and it uses micro-USB. This isn’t a problem for me, but note that if the cable breaks, finding an official replacement seems a bit difficult. You can use any micro-USB cable, however, be sure to buy a very thin one because Razer made a custom plug-in, so big cables won’t fit. The standard Xbox controller doesn’t require a lot of explanations. I think it is the best choice for players who don’t need extra buttons, and I feel comfortable while playing with it. The main difference between the Wolverine Ultimate and Tournament Edition’s ABXY buttons is that the former has very light buttons while the latter has harder ones. Honestly, it depends on your preference, but I am mostly a fan of the TE.Depending on the model of the Razer controller you have, the switch might be located somewhere else. You'll need to refer to the Razer's instruction manual for more details. The Wolverine Ultimate looks like a dolled-up, space-age version of a regular Xbox One controller. But in-hand it’s a different beast altogether. My only minor issue with the Wolverine is that I found things can easily become confusing when using any more than four to five profiles. This is because the custom RGB lighting Razer bangs on about applies only to a front strip. Unlike gaming keyboards, you can’t map it to specific keys. The Razer Wolverine V2 is the latest controller made by Razer. I do not recommend it because it costs almost as much as the Tournament and Ultimate Edition, but it has fewer features and some issues.

So why buy the Razer Wolverine Ultimate over the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller if the latter has wireless and the former doesn't? For one, the ABXY buttons exhibit performance unparalleled by the Wolverine Ultimate’s closest rival. Scuff is a very famous brand, and while their controllers are exceptionally good, it looks like they tend to break almost as easily as the Xbox Elite Series 2. Cheap and solid controller for PC All the controllers nowadays can have issues, but it looks like the Razer Wolverine Tournament Edition is the most durable among them all, and with the least amount of potential issues. The Xbox Series X offers a ton of power for the price. The most powerful console at the moment and with more storage than the PS5, it also has all the benefits of Xbox Game Pass which means you can sign up for the Netflix-style service and have what feels like a never-ending supply of games at your disposal for a monthly fee.

That said, I want to point out that while the old Xbox controllers were quite reliable in the long run (my 360 and Xbox One controllers lasted for almost 5 years each), these new ones seem to have a worse build quality. I’ve been PCMag’s home entertainment expert for over 10 years, covering both TVs and everything you might want to connect to them. I’ve reviewed more than a thousand different consumer electronics products including headphones, speakers, TVs, and every major game system and VR headset of the last decade. I’m an ISF-certified TV calibrator and a THX-certified home theater professional, and I’m here to help you understand 4K, HDR, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, and even 8K (and to reassure you that you don’t need to worry about 8K at all for at least a few more years). That shift is also relevant for gaming accessories, and the new Raze Wolverine Ultimate controller takes on Microsoft's Xbox Elite one while adding a few unique advantages. Of course, you can play on PC also with a Switch Pro or Playstation controller, but often you will have to use workarounds, install third-party software, or manually configure each button. Steam is the main exception because there you can select the controller you wish to use, but nowadays our game library is spread out among several platforms. Seize the unfair advantage with both hands with the Razer Wolverine V2 Pro—a high-performance wireless controller officially licensed by PlayStation™. Armed with Razer™ HyperSpeed Wireless and a loadout of next-gen features for top-tier competitive play, the time has come to claim your rule on PS5™ andPC.
