About this deal

Undaunted : Stalingrad features more than 300 unique illustrations by Roland MacDonald and 150 evocative mission briefings written by acclaimed author Robbie MacNiven. While giving Stalingrad a distinct ‘next-level’ feel, this is entirely in keeping with the weight and grit of its setting. After all, the real battle stretched over months during a gruelling winter and saw the city reduced largely to rubble by the German onslaught; a tragedy that the Soviets turned to their advantage, as the shattered husks of buildings provided the ideal battleground in which to resist and pin down their overconfident invaders. That said, it’s hard not to lament the permanent destruction of your strongholds during a battle. Even if you don’t ultimately lose the territory, it will never again provide the same degree of protection from the enemy snipers. Al massimo puoi conquistare Stalingrado, che non era nemmeno fondamentale per l'operazione barbarossa, anzi. Despite that spasm, all of this provides a tremendous tension that simply doesn’t exist in standard Undaunted. It’s a driving force behind the extended experience and partially responsible for the game’s brilliance. Thompson and Benjamin offer a release valve, however, by allowing you to retreat. Instead of taking your turn, you can call it quits and immediately capitulate. You lose, but you stop the bleeding. This completely changes the dynamic of play. It forces you to consider the permanence of unit loss and attaches an emotional connection to the lives of these men and women. Osprey Games is the dedicated games division of Osprey Publishing (part of Bloomsbury Publishing plc) and publishes a wide range of wargames, card games, and board games and roleplaying games.

Lead your stalwart troops to victory in this epic two-player campaign, played out in the war's most infamous city. non solo, ma le tessere stesse, a seconda del loro ultimo stato (a causa di cariche esplosive e bombardamenti), vengono sostituite da nuove, modificando le coperture sul campo di battaglia;una base di gioco solida, su cui è possibile innestare progressivamente nuove e svariate regole senza appesantire il tutto; It’s astonishing to me how the layers of additional systems never topple it all. Branching scenarios, rolling content, permanent casualties, and an evolving board never stray from the restrained design principles of the core game. There are many paths and even wholesale units you will never see in a particular campaign play. Some scenarios have hidden information and huge dramatic surprises that are hidden from one side. It all feels well-honed as if the designers are in complete control of their work. It comes across a natural evolution. Le regole sono praticamente le stesse di Undaunted Normandy, che fa da base a tutti i titoli successivi. Per cui potete leggerne il riassunto lì.

I’ve read that Stalingrad changes a couple of mechanisms from earlier games in the series. The routing of units felt natural to me and made me constantly mindful of my unit numbers. The rules to how units spawn to the board is also updated in this iteration of Undaunted. Rather than set locations, units enter the board based on rifleman locations. Riflemen become important as they are also the unit that can control mission points and push to victory in several mission types. The battle for Stalingrad features conflict over key positions as battles shift all over the city. The mechanical system itself is brilliant, one that has been slowly refined since the release of Undaunted: Normandy in 2019. After drawing four cards, players must then use one of those cards to bid on who goes first. The remaining three cards can then be used to activate units. Pull two cards for the same unit, and that unit can both move and fire on your turn. Pull fog of war cards, on the other hand, and your troops will sit in their foxholes while the enemy passes them by. The result is a tense and tactical engagement that lasts anywhere from 30-60 minutes, tops. Undaunted: Stalingrad is a powerful experience. It takes Trevor Benjamin and David Thompson’s acclaimed system and marries it to a campaign format that is engrossing and transcendent. The battle of Stalingrad is captured with such purpose and intimacy that I felt as if I was wandering through an HBO miniseries immersed in dramatic action. Alternatively, two of the combatants on each side are Upgraded to give them new abilities gained through their battle experience.

After the end of the scenario, both commanders write who won in their Scenario book. This will lead them to a Game State which they also record, the new Briefing and the next Scenario. All these numbers should be the same for each player. La preparazione e il riordino portano via poco tempo, grazie anche all'organizzazione della scatola. L'ingombro al tavolo è minimo.

There are also two separate trays for the City Pool tiles. One for the current City Tiles and one for the Transformed City Tiles which are used to replace the originals as the campaign progresses. Undaunted: Stalingrad is played in a number of scenarios, 15 in the full campaign, played over a section of the 72 tile depiction of an area South of Central Stalingrad around the 9 th January Square. There are many ways the campaign can go before culminating in one of 14 endings. The consequences of the previous combat are then resolved. Depending on casualties taken up to 3 randomly-selected soldier cards will be removed. These are permamently removed from the campaign but do NOT rip them up! This is not a classic Legacy game but one that can be reset for further play. The cards have individual (fictitious) soldier names and these combatants are now gone. They are replaced, however, by Reserves. These new blood have their own identities but will have lesser abilities. una gestione del mazzo intelligente, per cui è il giocatore a decidere cosa rischiare e cosa no, dove intensificare gli sforzi e dove no, quale strategia spingere e quale tralasciare;I enjoyed my first few plays of Stalingrad so thoroughly that I sought out more. That is, in the middle of a 15-scenario campaign, I diverted my attention to trying out Undaunted: Normandy. I needed to contextualize my experience with this particular iteration and work out some thoughts on the system. Campaign or not, Undaunted as a framework is a strong offering. Similarly the 129 map tiles not only represent a massive 72 tile depiction of the streets centred on Pavlov’s house on the edge of 9 January Square but also how those same streets are changed by being fortified or by being reduced to rubble.
