Angelina finds and takes care of an injured butterfly she calls Arthur. Angelina traps Arthur inside a glass jar, and then Henry releases him. Later on, Angelina and Henry get trapped in a dark a hole, but Arthur summons help for them. The books have been adapted by HIT Entertainment into two animated television series: Angelina Ballerina (2001-2006) and the CGI-animated Angelina Ballerina: The Next Steps (2009-2010). It has also been adapted as a touring ballet. I first heard of Angelina Ballerina by Katharine Holabird through the animated series. We were in Bend, Oregon on a trip. Harriet was getting over a stomach bug and I was coming down with one. We were holed up in our hotel room eating take out and watching kids television. Harriet was just learning to walk at the time. I don't know if her first exposure to Angelina Ballerina made any lasting impression or not. Miss Lilly chooses Angelina to be The Rose Fairy Princess, but Angelina is nervous about the flying stunt. Determined not to let Miss Lilly down, Angelina goes along with the stunt and overcomes her fear.

Mrs. Pinkpaws (voiced by Jonell Elliott) is the mother of the twins Priscilla and Penelope and their baby brother who appears in some of the episodes. She speaks with a Southern accent and wears a lot of jewelry. I enjoyed reading this book as it shared the story of Angelina the ballerina and wanting to dance for the princess. It's a good book about being patie...Angelina reluctantly takes Henry to the fair with her friends. Poor Henry is forced to go on rides that he does not like. When Angelina leaves Henry on his own, however, she loses him, but then she finds him and makes up for her selfishness. On Christmas Eve, Angelina receives a hand-painted gift from Miss Lilly. However, Angelina is unhappy that the gift she made for Miss Lilly is "not good enough", but Miss Lilly is absolutely flattered by Angelina's hand-painted Christmas gift.

On a camping trip, Angelina ventures with Henry into the dense forest, hoping to recover Grandpa's war medal. They become lost and see signs that look like the legendary Big Paw until they are met by Colonel Forthfoot. SD Entertainment and HIT Entertainment produced a new CGI series called Angelina Ballerina: The Next Steps which ran from September 5, 2009 to November 13, 2010. The series was criticized by fans of the original for the redesign or removal of several characters including the setting and format, among other things. Everywhere she goes, her steps turn into spins and leaps. Unfortunately, this does cause some problems, at times, and small chaotic messes. When her parents enroll her in ballet classes, Angelina has found her place and her dancing along with it.Originally published in 1983, and then presented in this 25th Anniversary Edition in 2008, this first story about that dancing mouse, Angelina Ballerina, is immensely charming. Always dancing, always moving, Angelina is the despair of her mother, as she causes destruction wherever she goes with her arabesques, and is always running late because she is imagining her life as a ballerina. Then Mrs. Mousling speaks to Mr. Mouseling, and they cook up a plan: they will give Angelina a beautiful ballet dress and shoes, and send her to classes. This has positive results, and not just in the short term...

Mr. Ivor Operatski (voiced by Derek Jacobi) is an old friend of Miss Lilly's and a stern choreographer. Angelina is convinced that he hates mouselings, but it turns out to not be true. A computer-animated revival, Angelina Ballerina: The Next Steps, premiered on PBS stations in 5 September 2009. It is directed by Davis Doi and animated at SD Entertainment. Angelina then becomes jealous, frustrated, neglected and upset, and starts whining and crying as usual, and goes as far as to destroying her room out of jealousy because she feels like her family doesn't care about her anymore. The whole Mouseling family tries to solve this problem so that Angelina can love and accept her new sister. I understand that Angelina has a dream and nothing will stop her, even her parents, even the rules. I just don't see how this is a nice lesson or story for children. It's almost saying don't pay any attention to the people around you, behave selfishly, and you will eventually push them to give you what they want. This story would have been better if her parents had taught her to have respect for her family and for the property of others and if she had learned all of these things, perhaps they would be able to help her begin to dance.
