Arifureta: From Commonplace to World's Strongest 10 with Drama CD]. Overlap (in Japanese) . Retrieved June 30, 2019. A prequel light novel series titled Arifureta: From Commonplace to World's Strongest Zero ( ありふれた職業で世界最強 零, Arifureta Shokugyō de Sekai Saikyō Zero), or Arifureta Zero, was published from December 2017 to December 2021 in six volumes. [17] [5] [18] [19] The series is considered to vary in how hard it leans into the typical tropes of the isekai genre depending on which incarnation you go with, although the initial insignificance of Hajime’s powers in the novels makes for a unique subversion of the genre’s typical theme of effortless wish fulfillment for protagonists. The franchise is intended for a mature audience due to its humor, and the anime in particular is rated TV-MA.

The art is one of the things that really popped to me while reading this manga. It's simple but very effective, and it always contributes a sense of scale to the action setpieces whenever they occur. The images are bright and vivid, and although the drawing style might not be unique, per se, the aesthetics of the world and its characters are unique, varied, and, most of all, fun to watch. What I did like about this show is the story. That is what made the show watchable for me. If it wasn't for the story, I probably would have drop it a long time ago. They story is interesting, its not like every Isekai out there. High-schooler Hajime Nagumo is bullied by some of his classmates for his relationship with the class idol, Kaori. When he and the rest of his class are transported to a fantasy world, all of his classmates get powerful magical abilities, while Hajime only gains the basic alchemical magic to transmute solid materials, a common ability usually found in craftsmen and smiths. During a dungeon raid, he is betrayed by one of his classmates and dropped to the bottom of the dungeon. He survives the fall and creates weapons to escape the dungeon and become stronger. On his journey, he meets with the imprisoned vampire Yue, and later is joined by the bunny-eared Shea, the perverted dragon Tio, and others. As is the case with any self-proclaimed Isekai, Arifureta features an unimaginative main character — Hajime Nagumo — who starts off as a weak bitch, but eventually levels up to a Pirate/Terminator/1800’s Banker/NSYNC Justin with the frosty tips/phony bad-ass, to fight cannon fodder on his wayRessler, Karen (September 11, 2017). Among the class transported to another world, Nagumo Hajime is an ordinary male student who didn’t have ambition nor aspiration in life, and thus called “Incompetent” by his classmates. The class was summoned to become heroes and save a country from destruction. Students of the class were blessed with cheat specifications and cool job class, however, it was not the case with Hajime, with his profession as a “Synergist”, and his very mediocre stats. “Synergist”, to put it in another word was just artisan class. Being the weakest, he then falls to the depth of the abyss when he and his classmates were exploring a dungeon. What did he find in the depth of the abyss, and can he survive? The characters in this story are bold and different. It's clear that this man will continue to add members to his harem; that's a reality of the genre and this story as a whole. Obviously, you've got the deredere rabbit, what may be a kuudere dragon lady succubus thing (the tail), and then you've got Yue, who is a bit more 3 dimensional, but not by much let's be real here. However, where it really shines is the MC. This is just some dude, who is always in the dust. When he finally gets power, it's refreshing to see a guy who doesn't care about "justice", or "doing what's right". He sees the best way forward for his goal, and moves towards it, regardless of consequences. It's a refreshing change of pace from other leads in similar isekai. Hodgkins, Crystalyn (April 17, 2021). I really enjoy where this is going. It plays out generally as a dungeon crawler video game does. Complete a dungeon, move onto the next. You must meet basic criteria before being allowed to attempt a dungeon. That's what this plot essentially boils down to. Of course, in the larger plan of things, you've got the whole laughing gods arc, as well as the many side arcs (evil mage, other classmates, etc.). I can't say much more without spoiling this manga, but I feel like the story is basic but proficient. It's fairly standard fare when it comes to Isekai stories, and the conflict is rather plain, but it's definitely a very enjoyable read. didn't add new content to the anime that they light novel didn't have, its that the anime started when they were in the new world and that not how the light novel started. Light novel started with them at there school, anime really doesn't show anything about them being in school and I think they shouldn't have done that. a b c d e f g Pineda, Rafael Antonio (March 23, 2019). Rebecca Silverman of Anime News Network enjoyed the series, praising it for its central premise and how it was "good twist on the genre conventions" by making its hero have to work for his overpowered hero status instead of immediately gaining it like many light novel protagonists. [50] [51] She praised the series for its depiction of the romantic relationship between Hajime and Yue, which she called "healthy", and also felt that the translation wasn't as good as some of J-Novel Club's other releases. Like any other medium, for a manga to be successful, it must be entertaining. It must provide that hook that keeps readers going, whether it's through its (as MAL seems to categorize), story, art, orWhile certain aspects of the Arifureta novels and manga were praised for their satirical handling of certain isekai genre conventions, many fans have panned the anime adaptation. This reception comes on charges of playing the often-used tropes of the genre in a watered down and more predictable fashion as well as an over-reliance on tedious lewd humor. The first season was a co-production between two studios (with the second season having one of the two swapped out for another), and the changing of creatives during production is the likely cause for what many consider to be some odd plotting and pacing decisions, as well as a more routine example of one of the most heavily saturated genres in modern anime.
