Description

Created by master blender Jim Beveridge, the new Johnnie Walker Aged 18 Years release is described as a “complex and smooth” combination of “up to 18 different whiskies” from the main producing regions in Scotland. This is Johnnie Walker Aged 18 Years, but some stores will charge you the higher Platinum price and then deliver the 18 Year, which may be selling for a lower price on Drizly. This whisky seems to be a popular choice for people just starting out and wanting to try the more expensive stuff as well as cheaper whiskies, but are too intimidated to strike out into the single malts and so on. It certainly has good looks just as a bottle on the shelf! Blend-lovers, it's nothing massively special but you will always get bonus points from anyone you serve this to unless they're a single malt person.

Johnnie Walker Aged 18 Years | Blended Scotch Whisky

Johnnie Walker has been a household name of blended whisky for over 215 years but with such a varied and expansive history it is hard to know which is their best bottling.

Nose: Honeyed cereals, Cadbury's Fruit and Nut, distant bonfire smoke, clementine and spring blossom. It is hand-crafted by Jim Beveridge – twice voted Master Blender of the Year – who sought out the ultimate combination of complex and smooth 18-year-old whiskies drawn from the main whisky producing regions of Scotland including classic Speyside malts, such as Cardhu, Glen Elgin and Auchroisk known for their sweetness and elegance; fruity and complex Highland Malts including Blair Athol and beautifully aged island malts that introduce a subtle smokiness” As the whisky market became more unstable during the 1920s and 1930s, Johnnie Walker amalgamated with Distillers Company Limited (DCL).

Then again, I seem to be exclusively a single malts type of whisky nerd. Friends of mine who like JW and blends seem to like it, but they have agreed that it isn't worth the price.
