Description

Optical construction is 11 elements in 8 groups, including 4 HR (High Refractive Index) and 1 ED (Extra Low Dispersion) elements. UMC coating is Samyang's own version of Ultra Multicoating. There are 9 blades in the diaphragm, to assist in producing smooth bokeh; the quality and gradation of the out of focus areas in an image. Sharpness is good rather than insanely great at f/1.4, while defocused areas look beautifully soft and dreamy (Image credit: Matthew Richards) Quote:It's a matter of availablility rather than choice, but the good news is that an A7R III suddenly became available, a bit late in the day but I've just completed another set of Imatest results and hopefully Josh can add those results in the near future. In real life , the results obtained are very good, we can however notice sometimes some slight missed focus for walking subjects

Optical stabilization isn't included, but it's an uncommon feature in this focal length, and most full-frame Sony cameras have it built into the body. If you absolutely must have it in an 85mm lens, the pricey Zeiss Batis 1.8/85 is your only option in E-mount. Strong Resolution, With Caveats

What stands out is that the Sigma has an exceptional amount of contrast which gives it an advantage in the center and the real-world result. The Samyang is slightly better in the corners in my comparison. This is also one area of serious advantage over the Sigma DN lens, which has both a LOT of pincushion distortion and much heavier vignette.

Conclusion

Chromatic aberrations, typically seen as purple or blue fringes along contrasty edges, were not too much of a problem in our test shots, as shown in the examples below. Globally the Sigma 85mm F1.4 DG DN Art wins hands down and cost only 300 euros more than the new Samyang (800 euros) Get the latest photography news straight to your inbox by signing up to our newsletter.
