About this deal

Firstly I would never have come across this book if it wasn't for a friend here on Good reads who's review encouraged me to read this wonderful novel.

There’s a lot going on with Kanae Minato’s unique writing style. Unflinching and gruesome, while remaining somewhat removed offers an altered perspective. By cycling through characters perspectives, the reader has the opportunity to learn their motives as each tells their version of events; before, during and after the death of Manami.

"Kanae Minato's 'Confessions' hits its mark with a vengeance". Los Angeles Times. Kanae Minato ( 湊かなえ, Minato Kanae, born 1973) is a Japanese writer of crime fiction and thrillers. She is a member of the Mystery Writers of Japan and the Honkaku Mystery Writers Club of Japan. [1] [2] She is a 2015 recipient of the Alex Awards. The dynamics of families are similarly Japanese, with the pressures to perform well against other students often put above the individual skills and happiness of a pupil.Children are not the lovable innocent little people we often perceive them to be. They too are capable of many horrific acts of cruelty, none more so than those mentioned in Confessions. It’s a dark story about dysfunctional families, obsession, cruelty, the quest for love, the quest for revenge. When we think about children, we always picture them as some kind of sweet and innocent beings but this book shows just how much of cruelty they are capable of and are able to get away with. It also highlights the role of the family, society, and environment in shaping them. The story is unpredictable and full of twists and is topped off with an unexpected ending! Weak people find even weaker people to be their victims. And the victimized often feel that they have only two choices: put up with the pain or end their suffering in death. But they’re wrong. The world you lives in is much bigger than that. If the place in which you find yourself is too painful, I say you should be free to seek another, less painful place of refuge. There is no shame in seeking a safe place. I want you to believe that somewhere in this wide world there is a place for you, a safe haven.’ This book was not quite what I expected it to be, but I still enjoyed it. If you are looking for an addicting and concise thought provoking psychological thriller. This is definitely it.. the book discussed various themes like - role of teachers in society, intense bullying, minor criminals and law aganist them.

In youth she was an avid fan of mystery novels of Edogawa Ranpo, Maurice Leblanc, Agatha Christie, Keigo Higashino, Miyuki Miyabe and Yukito Ayatsuji. [3] that ending was like a game changer. I was like wtf and wow at the same time. That revenge plan was like WOW.a b c "BookDragon | Confessions by Kanae Minato, translated by Stephen Snyder". Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center . Retrieved 2023-04-10. The entire time I kept thinking, I need to see this adapted. BUT guess what?!? It already was!! Not only was it adapted but it was a short film that was on an Oscar short list!! I wasn't about to find the entire film on YouTube but I'm keeping my search. The few clips and videos I did see showed some differences in story but that's to be expected, books are always better and at time more disturbing. What I saw looked sooo good though.
