Description

Shrug of God: Director Kunihiko Ikuhara is infamously unhelpful — and sometimes deliberately infuriating— when it comes to explaining things about the show and even more so regarding Adolescence of Utena. Don't expect much in the way of straight Word of God. Probably best demonstrated with his statement about the difference between (Series) Utena and (Movie) Utena: "In the movie, she turns into a car." on the phone to Akio] Hello? Yes. I was looking at the stars. I don't want to look at the real stars. Parental Abandonment: Charon was raised by her grandmother after her mother abandoned her by faking her death in a fire. What I want is to surpass everything. You after I win the duel, my brother, myself up until now, everything.

But, while the tension and eeriness is palpable, I did feel at times the pacing was a bit off. And, while I’m not one to crave a neat ending, I felt there were quite a few ends that remain a little too loose. In fact I’m still quite confused by some of the paranormal activity in the novel and also so many side-story details that seemingly have very little – or no? – relevance to the plot. Touga: [ Stepping out of the shadows] Glad to hear that. I'm Touga Kiryuu, student council president, and totally normal boy. Good is Not Nice: Played straight; one of the better examples is after Paul stops Lin from killing the Bloodwatch member and then hooks them up to their own brainwashing equipment before leaving. Said equipment is described to leave the victim in a frenzied drugged-out state. The same booklet features an early design for Touga that had him depicted with short blond hair, while Saionji would wear glasses and have short green hair. You stand here before me because of the illusion you've created! That's what allows you to enter the dueling arena! Am I wrong? In the end, you and I are the same.

On the run from the police (thanks to Chrissy's post-traumatic blaming of Charon for the murders), mother and daughter must now confront the eldritch powers that are lurking in the shadows of Innsmouth, as an Ancient Conspiracy's plan just hit high gear and the duo are the only ones that have a chance in hell of stopping it. Shout-Out meets Self-Deprecation when one of Starkweather characters insults Shadowgirls and it's creators here. Also, the artist tends to sneak in little Shout Outs to his friends in the art.

Foreshadowing: Misty's speech bubbles are subtly outlined in yellow, indicating that there's more to her than meets the eye... Amidst the resurgence of ghost stories and superstition among the girls, a tragedy is about to occur, one that will send Sally more and more down an uncanny rabbit hole...Utena: The truth is, my protecting you was just for my own ego. And the night I learned about you and Akio, I thought that you had betrayed me. Even though you were suffering so much. After I had said we should help each other, come what may… I was the one who cheated you! I was the one who used you! I was the one who betrayed you! I used to think that sincerity was valuable...and that it was the one and only way to change the world. But sincerity by itself changes nothing. Without power, one finds themself merely depending on others to live. I've taken enough risks to buy the power to change the world. That's how the world works. And with the RP that exists in the forums. Whenever you see characters like Hera and Tain popping up, that's a forumite crossover.

Shadow Girls | Carol Birch | 9781838939458 | NetGalley

Carol Birch has written this haunting story that almost...melts your brain. Timelines weave in and out as Sally falls deeper and deeper into her mania and confusion. Visions and voices appear and you wonder if Sally is the only one who is experiencing it or if everyone is. In Memoriam: The anime's 15th anniversary DVD special edition was dedicated to lead VA Tomoko Kawakami, who passed away the previous year.

Experienced author Birch – who has penned 12 previous novels, including Booker Prize finalist Jamrach’s Menagerie – deserves praise for the crescendo of suspense created in Shadow Girls. So here's some questions for more seasoned viewers of the show that I hope will spark some discussion: Tomato in the Mirror: Played with for Christmas Snow who gets the moment of revelation but it doesn't seem like it has sunk in yet. leaving Ohtori] Now it's my turn to go. No matter where you are, I'll find you for sure. Wait for me, Utena. to Juri] So pretty. I loved the look in your eyes when I hurt you. I always thought you were stronger than anyone…and yet now you seem so weak.

It opens harmlessly enough: the teenaged narrator Sally and her rebellious best friend Pamela are part way through a music lesson at their all girls’ school. Other elements of their everyday lives are vividly unveiled through Sally’s running commentary: all the well-worn activities of adventurous girls of their age at the time. Jason DeMarco says [adult swim] and/or Toonami was interesting in broadcasting the series at one point, but it didn't work out. Creator's Favorite: From the English dub, Crispin Freeman (Touga), Amanda Goodman (Juri), and Lisa Ortiz (Shiori) have all named Utena as one of their favorite voiceover projects.Fantasy Kitchen Sink: Apparently, not only is this is a world of Cthulhu Mythos, but also vampires, werewolves, and aliens. And Lovecraft was a part of an organization dedicated to passing the knowledge of how to fight them to the rest of humanity, masked as a fiction. An unsettling and compelling ghost story, 'Shadow Girls' starts in the 1960s, where the narrator, Sally, is an ordinary teenager. She attends an unremarkable girls' school in Manchester, has a nice boyfriend whom she suspects she does not appreciate enough, and enjoys a little light rule-breaking with her loud mouthed friend Pamela. But then Pamela's feud with snooty classmate Sylvia begins to get out of hand, and rumours of strange phenomena start spreading amongst the girls. The events that follow will continue to haunt Sally well into her adulthood. Dark Is Not Evil: When two female protagonists have shadow-based powers, and the primary antagonist is light-based, this one is obvious.
