The language was a bit difficult, but it was always possible to work out the meaning; I think it's good for children to be introduced to difficult words from a young age. The phrase 'George and the Dragon' conjures up all sorts of images but I doubt one in which George is a lonely child and the dragon a creature which remains harmless and largely unseen.

This text could lead to further investigations of dragons, using the book Dragonology which also uses the talents of Helen Ward and Wayne Anderson amongst others – both are multi-award-winning. Readers must look beyond the lack of warmth and affection that George experiences, to appreciate the power of a child's imagination that is the theme.

You guys were so fab and Dawn was such a lovely presence in the schools - I will absolutely be in touch next time I'm in your neck of the woods. It had lots of potential, but there was a side story that was a distraction and completely underdeveloped. This book is paced very quickly and there are few elements to distinguish it as an international book, but the illustrations and typeface seem to fit this book perfectly. The children are introduced to The Dragon Machine by Helen Ward and other well-known dragon stories, George and the Dragon by Chris Wormell, and The Paper Bag Princess by Robert Munsch.

Children will enjoy finding all the little dragons on the different pages and siding with George in these discoveries whilst the adults in his world are too busy to notice. I think there are quite a few comparison points that students could connect to through this picture book. He builds a fantastic dragon shaped machine and leads the dragons home and then is found and taken home himself, no longer feeling invisible. I felt like there was not a lot of complexity to the story, but again, perhaps that is essential to appeal to three-year-olds. Spelling Seeds have been designed to complement Writing Roots by providing weekly, contextualised sequences of sessions for the teaching of spelling that include open-ended investigations and opportunities to practise and apply within meaningful and purposeful contexts, linked (where relevant) to other areas of the curriculum and a suggestion of how to extend the investigation into home learning. There was just the right amount of choice to suit everyone without being overwhelming and I received comments from parents and staff about the quality of books offered compared to previous sales which have always been based around current crazes and well known celebrity authors. Through role-play and group discussion they will think carefully about characterisation and closely investigate how characters’ feelings influence their behaviour.

Telephone wires, dustbins, butterfly chasing, cat taunting, water lily sinking… the dragons perplex and populate George’s world. The pack even goes a step further by offering a selection of resources and activities at the end of the pack to support teachers in the classroom. We got it originally from the library a number of times before we decided to look for a secondhand copy online. George sees dragons everywhere he looks and thus begins to feed them stale cookies and smelly cheese. This resources will encourage and support pupils to explore unknown vocabulary, classify tiered vocabulary independently, explore the wider application of newly acquired vocabulary and enhance classroom vocabulary display which ultimately leads to improved retention.

I think the storyline might have been lost on the littler children, but they had so much fun finding the dragons, they didn't mind! Each pack carefully analyses the vocabulary used by authors, chapter by chapter, then provides an explanation of these unfamiliar or meaning-rich words in context. He made up little men, kinda the size of the Brownies (picture here played by Kevin Pollack and Rick Overton) from the movie Willow. He likes the dragons but when they get him into trouble by breaking things George realises he needs to do something.

After George has led the dragons out of the city, he realises that he is loved and missed by the world he left behind. These branches are designed to support home learners to access literature-based learning using a selection of books we love from Writing Roots. You can also watch our Storytime playlistonYouTube read by the likes of Ore Oduba, Adam Buxton, Fearne Cotton and many more.Ward easily captures the everyday magic of childhood and turns it into an adventure that will delight readers so long as they are old enough to follow along with the illustrations. The text also help relate to show like that he was flying the machine with all the dragons following behind. I was at my last school for 4 years and we had ********* book fairs every term – and every term, I was disappointed by the narrow range of books.
