Most white wines will never need longer than 15 minutes to aerate, and I’d say 30 mins tops for a mature bottle. If you’re unsure on how long to aerate your wine for, it’s best to ask upon purchasing. Most wine shops are delighted to tell you all about the benefits of decanting! Do You Decant White Wine? Consider whether you’d prefer a decanter that can go in the dishwasher safely or if you are okay with frequent handwashing and gentle care.

So with our love of wine and our desire to move further into the realm of sustainability we decided to put eto to the test… Taste and time Decanting wines can be somewhat of a mystery for the novice oenophile. You might wonder why you'd want to decant or if it's even necessary. Simply put, decanting your wine—and having the right decanter to do it—can make a huge difference in your enjoyment of wine. We did appreciate that the wine opened up nicely during the test, and for a larger decanter, it was easily cleaned with warm and soapy water; this decanter doesn't hold up well in the dishwasher. It's durable, easy to hold, and inexpensive; it's hard to top those attributes. This one-stop wonder comes with everything you need to clean and store your decanter. It also comes with a round cork stopper that makes this decanter perfect for enjoying white wines or older wines. These more delicate drinks require a shorter oxygen exposure than young red wines—often just 20 to 30 minutes—before they begin to lose their bright, vibrant character. Day 4: Pouring another glass from the eto and the opened bottle, the difference really started to show. The eto wine tasted just like it did on the day of opening, except better as it had had a chance to breath but the opened bottle was already starting to lose its quality.Lovely Verdejo aromas of nettles, lemon curd and fresh herbs. Bright, full-bodied and fleshy with pineapple, a squeeze of lime, banana and mango. Crisp and refreshing. Alc 13.2% Doña Beatriz, Verdejo, Rueda 2019 Material: Lead-free crystal | Capacity: 25 ounces | Dimensions (LxWxH): 8 x 7 x 7 inches | What's Included: Decanter and built-in aerator

The decanter allows for removal of sediment that can discolour the wine and make it taste gritty, whilst the aerator softens the tannins and releases the flavours that you may not normally notice – it’s the best of both worlds. It holds 1.8 litres of liquid, which is enough to keep you going for the evening as you won’t have to wait between bottles for the wine to aerate, you can put multiple bottles in at once! It has an innovative design with finger impressions in the glass that makes it really easy to grip and pour – the impressions actually look like a mountain which gives it a really interesting look too! Pros:This wine decanter and aerator by Luxbe is great for releasing the rich flavours and aromas in your red wine. Crystalline is great to look at but also doesn’t contain any lead, unlike lead crystal, so there’s no risk of lead leaching into your wine and causing any potentially harmful side effects. When testing, we loved the extras, adding to the aesthetic of an otherwise classic decanter. The cork ball stopper gave the decanter a more youthful, modern look. The wide tapered mouth made it easy to pour wine into the decanter, and because the decanter is weighed well, it effortlessly poured wine into the glass. The decanter left little wine left in the bottom of the decanter, with little to no dripping from the lip, and it opened up the wine nicely.

This aerator is simple to use, all you have to do is hold it over your empty glass and pour the wine through, into your glass. It is fast and effective, adding an extra depth to the body of your wine. The decanter itself holds up to 1.8 litres of liquid (that’s almost two and a half standard bottles of wine) and the shape means that even if it’s not filled with wine, it would look great as a dinner table decoration, or even just a fancier way to serve your wine!Material: Glass | Capacity: 50.7 ounces | Dimensions (LxWxH): 9.6 x 9.6 x 12.5 inches | What's Included: Decanter If you wanted to use a decanter to catch the sediments in your wine as well as aerating it, you can place this over the top of your decanter and pour into that, rather than pouring it into your glass.

Grapefruit and sweet vanilla aromas. Rich, fat and textured in the mouth, with bright, balanced acidity and a lingering, delightful finish. A great wine for those who like big, toasty, oaked whites. Alc 14% Ca N’Estella, Gran Clot dels Oms Chardonnay, Penedès 2017

Chilling wine in a hurry?

Céline Bossart is a longtime wine writer who has seen, shopped for, and used plenty of decanters. While they’re a must-have for any wine drinker, she does not recommend traveling with them. Clean your decanter regularly to ensure it stays stain free, stains left to fester can scratch the glass when you go to clean them off later.
