Thornbridge Brewery was born of this idea, and was situated in one of the out-buildings on the site. Not long after, Thornbridge Brewery moved out of its eponymous hall and to a site on the outskirts of the small market town of Bakewell, where it has been ever since. You could see their footprint in the use of Maris Otter malts for rich sweetness, and in heavy doses of hops like Chinook and Simcoe. Here we have the second of Thornbridge’s special versions of Jaipur IPA brewed to celebrate 15 years of their premier beer.

With over 350 Industry recognised awards they are rightly proud to be part of the exciting Craft Beer scene. That would have meant a stronger beer, a more bitter one, and certainly not one that would have worked on cask—one of the formats in which Thornbridge packaged Jaipur. We are often told “this is the beer, that got me into beer” and we are always very proud to hear this. The Brewery Bible is proud to work with breweries and beer venues of all shapes and sizes to enhance the beer lovers experience. He brought in another friend, Simon Webster, who had experience in the food and drink world, and between them hired two guys fresh out of university brewing courses.

Yet by the early aughts, cask had taken on the image of the kind of beer your grandpa drinks in merry olde pubs that were shrines to nostalgia. It’s usually recognised as the first UK craft IPA, and was brewed with a huge amount of US hops at a time where this was very unusual, these provide a fantastic experience of grapefruit, lemon and tropical fruit with an enticing bitterness. For the first time in decades, breweries were opening instead of closing, and young people had a reason to go the pub. Just a few months after the garden party, he stumbled across a Thornbridge tap at a pub in Castleton, a small village in Derbyshire’s Peak District. A relatively early example of an American West Coast IPA first brewed in the countryside of Derbyshire, it became one of the tentpole beers of the UK’s embrace of hoppy American ales. Harrison found a partner in Simon Webster and they hired two young brewing-school graduates, Italian Stefano Cossi and Scotsman Martin Dickie, giving them wide latitude in the brewhouse. In the event of any safety concerns or for any other information about a product please carefully read any instructions provided on the label or packaging and contact the manufacturer.

Cask shuffles the elements a bit, smoothing the hops, accentuating the orange a bit more than the fir. To make that transition smooth, Webster employed Rob Lovatt, who had been working at Meantime Brewery as head brewer. Our book 20th Century Pub was released in 2017 and is an award-winning rattle through the development of the English pub from beerhouses to micropubs. Inspired by Wickett’s beers and their own experience of American craft brewing, they began by using U. We thought it was a great beer but when the awards started coming in I think it did take us by surprise, from the first gold medal for Beer of the Festival in Sheffield they kept on rolling in. As Webster says, this was a beer that was very much on its own in 2005, and it has also survived and continues to impress and win awards.

Its first beers appeared in February 2005, brewed on a second hand 10-barrel kit in the grounds of Thornbridge Hall. The hops used are the American varieties Chinook, Centennial, Ahtanum, Simcoe, Columbus and Cascade, which give it that energetic and zesty fruitiness and despite its 5. This Jacobean country house is located just outside of Bakewell, and dates back to the 12th Century.Brewing still takes place today on the original kit at Thornbridge Hall, which allows us to experiment with new brews, create bespoke Hall brews, collaborations and assist the main brewery in Bakewell. We obviously think it’s delicious, but more importantly chief sommelier at Thornbridge James Buchanan has given the pairing a double thumbs up. This iconic American style IPA has a complexity of flavour created by a six-dimensional hop experience.
